A language mismatch by itself does not prove the match is wrong. If the material was misidentified or you have the rights to use it, you can dispute the claim; if YouTube rejects the dispute, you may be able to appeal—but an appeal can put the video at risk of a takedown request and copyright strike.
First identify what YouTube has claimed
A Content ID claim is not the same as a copyright strike. Content ID can automatically match a video or part of one against material in its system. Depending on the rights holder’s policy, the claim may block, monetize, or track the video. Its effect can vary by country or region, and a video can have multiple claims covering different segments or rights holders.
An unfamiliar claimant does not automatically mean the claim is invalid. For a livestream in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Bengali, another regional language, or a mix of languages, focus on the claimed work and timestamp. The relevant question is whether the audio or video was misidentified, or whether you have a valid basis and the necessary rights—not whether the content is in a particular language. YouTube’s general guidance does not describe a separate appeal route for regional-language livestreams.
Open the claim details in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Content, then open the Videos tab.
- Find the livestream recording and hover over Claims in the Restrictions column.
- Select See details. Under Content used, identify the relevant claim and segment.
These are the labels in YouTube’s documented desktop route; Studio’s interface can change. Check whether the claim concerns the exact performance, song, recording, or other material you used, and whether it blocks or restricts the video in particular territories.

Decide whether you have grounds to dispute
YouTube lists having all necessary rights, qualifying copyright exceptions, and believing that the material was misidentified or an error occurred as possible reasons to dispute. The initial dispute and any appeal are reviewed by the claimant: YouTube says it cannot decide ownership disputes for you.
Reasons that are not enough on their own
- Giving credit to the artist or rights holder.
- Owning a copy of a song, video, or recording.
- Choosing not to monetize the livestream.
If you believe the use is fair use or otherwise protected by an exception, do not assume an automated match will be reversed for that reason. YouTube says fair use is a subjective, case-by-case question that courts can decide; an appeal is not a guarantee of success. If your rights position is uncertain, consider getting advice from a qualified copyright professional before escalating.

Collect the facts for the specific segment
YouTube does not prescribe a special evidence bundle for regional-language livestreams. As a practical preparation step, preserve the claim details and timestamps, the original livestream recording, relevant licenses or written permissions, and records that identify the performer, track, or source. Write a concise explanation tied to the claimed segment: for example, what was matched, why you believe it is yours or licensed, or what specific material appears to have been misidentified. Do not claim rights you cannot support.
Submit a dispute, then consider an appeal
Submit the initial dispute
From the relevant claim’s details in Studio, choose Take action, then Dispute, and follow the prompts. State the reason accurately and explain it in relation to the matched material. The claimant has 30 days to respond to an initial dispute. It can release the claim, reinstate it, submit a copyright removal request, or let the claim expire.

Appeal a rejected dispute
If the dispute is rejected and you remain confident that the claim is invalid, Studio may let you appeal. YouTube gives the claimant 7 days to respond to an appeal. A blocking Content ID claim may instead show Escalate to Appeal, which can skip the initial dispute stage. That route has a more consequential downside: if the claimant rejects the appeal, it can submit a copyright removal request. If the request is valid, YouTube can remove the video and issue a strike.
Do not choose an appeal simply because it is faster. Compare the value of keeping the disputed segment with the evidence for your rights position and your willingness to risk a removal request. A copyright strike follows a valid removal request, not merely the existence of a Content ID claim.

If YouTube removes the video
If a removal request takes down the video, you may be able to submit a counter notification if you still believe the removal was invalid. YouTube describes a counter notification as a legal request, so read its requirements carefully and consider legal advice if you are unsure. It is a separate step from disputing or appealing a Content ID claim.

|---|---|---|
| Dispute, then appeal if eligible | You have a substantiated reason, such as a misidentification or the necessary rights, and preserving the segment matters. | An initial dispute gives the claimant 30 days to respond; an appeal gives 7 days. An appeal can lead to a removal request and, if valid, a strike. |

Understand what happens to revenue while a claim is disputed
YouTube may hold revenue while a claim is being disputed or appealed and pay it to the appropriate party after resolution. If you dispute within 5 days of the claim, revenue is held starting from the date the claim was placed; if you dispute later, it is held starting from the date of the dispute. A similar 5-day timing rule applies to an appeal. YouTube also says revenue data for a video with an active disputed or appealed claim will not appear in YouTube Analytics. These are platform process rules, not a promise about what a particular creator will earn.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your channel uses uploaded recordings or playlists for a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo can keep that stream running from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it does not resolve copyright claims or replace the need for rights to the material.
