Use Set Work Preferences to stop a Pal from taking on unwanted work types. These controls serve different purposes: preferences filter eligible jobs, while a fixed assignment locks the Pal to a particular facility.
Choose the assignment method that fits the job

How to assign a Pal to a specific workstation
For a quick task: pick up and throw the Pal
- Pick up the Pal you want to direct.
- Aim toward the workstation and throw the Pal. Aim carefully if several stations are close together.
- Check that it has taken the intended task. If the task is temporary, redirect the Pal afterward as needed. [Mobalytics]
For a continuing role: use the Monitoring Stand
- Interact with the Monitoring Stand and open Fixed assignment management. Mobalytics lists the stand as a Level 7 unlock. [Mobalytics]
- Select the Pal, then select the facility where you want it to work.
- Before leaving the board, verify that the displayed Pal and facility are the ones you intended.
A fixed assignment suits a facility that needs a dedicated worker, but the Pal stays there even when the facility has nothing to do. For an ongoing duty such as maintaining a Cooler Box, that may be useful; for flexible general labor, automatic work may be a better fit. [Mobalytics]
How to prevent a Pal from switching to unwanted work
- Interact with the Monitoring Stand and open Set Work Preferences.
- Choose the Pal and turn off the work types you do not want it to perform.
- Leave enabled the types you want it to remain eligible for.
Preferences are filters, not a priority list: they can prevent a Pal from doing a work type, but they do not tell it to prefer one enabled type over another. Transporting can be a distraction when dropped items draw workers away from their intended duties. [Mobalytics]
Why an assignment may fail
- Check Work Suitability. The Pal must meet the facility’s requirement. Look at the suitability and facility prompts in the current game.
- Check work preferences. Make sure the relevant work type is allowed for that Pal.
- Read the in-game alert or failure message. The version 1.0 changelog records an alert when no Pal at the base meets a facility’s required Work Suitability, along with improved messages for insufficient suitability and failed fixed assignments. [Paldeck Patch Notes]
What changed with Work Suitability in version 1.0
Palworld version 1.0, released July 10, 2026, expanded Work Suitability to 10 levels and rebalanced Pal values. It also improved fixed assignments: the changelog says, “Fixed assignments can now be set from the Monitoring Stand even for sleeping Pals.” [Paldeck Patch Notes]

Because those suitability values changed, older guides may describe outdated levels or assumptions about which Pals qualify. Use the current in-game suitability display and prompts when checking a worker. This article reflects the cited version 1.0 changelog; later changes are not established here.
