YouTube Studio lets you create and reorder playlists, but its documented tools do not include a recurring weekly playlist-rotation scheduler. For a small playlist, update it manually on a consistent day. For hands-off weekly changes, use an external scheduler that authenticates to the YouTube Data API and inserts or reorders playlist items. That is a build-your-own workflow, not a YouTube-provided scheduler. First decide whether your “radio channel” is a playlist viewers start themselves or a continuous live broadcast: they are different workflows.
Choose the workflow that matches your radio channel
| What you want | Suitable workflow | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Viewers play a set of videos in sequence | Maintain a YouTube playlist manually in Studio, or automate its item order with an external scheduler and the YouTube Data API. | It does not start a continuous live broadcast. |
| A broadcast-style radio stream | Schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. An encoder-based stream uses a stream URL and key. | Scheduling a broadcast is not the same as changing the order of videos in a playlist. |
| New videos become public on set dates | Use scheduled video publishing to make a private upload public at a selected time and time zone. | It does not rotate items in an existing playlist. |
YouTube Help and Google for Developers documentation checked on October 3, 2026 describe playlist creation and item operations, but do not document a native recurring playlist-rotation feature or a YouTube-provided scheduler for playlist edits.
Update the playlist manually in YouTube Studio
This is the simplest option when the lineup is small and someone can make the weekly change. The Studio workflow supports creating a playlist, choosing its arrangement, editing visibility, and dragging videos into a new order. Interface labels may change, so confirm the current Studio controls in your account.
- In YouTube Studio, open the playlist-management area and create a playlist or select the playlist you want to maintain.
- Set the playlist’s visibility and choose an arrangement that permits manual ordering.
- Drag videos into the order you want listeners to hear them. Decide whether each weekly update replaces the whole lineup or changes only selected items.
- On the same day and at the same time each week, review the playlist, make the planned edits, and check the resulting order from the viewer-facing playlist.
Use a stable schedule you can sustain. YouTube’s creator guidance advises that a consistent, sustainable release schedule helps set audience expectations and recommends communicating schedule changes.

Automate weekly ordering with an external scheduler and the Data API
The documented YouTube Data API includes operations to insert playlist items and update their positions. A separate recurring job—such as a scheduler you operate or a custom integration—can run those operations on your chosen weekly timetable. This is an implementation approach inferred from the documented API operations, not a turnkey YouTube feature or a tested recipe.
Plan the weekly rotation
- Choose a stable weekly day, time, and time zone for the job.
- Define the intended lineup in a schedule or data file, including each video’s position.
- Decide whether each run rebuilds the entire lineup or changes only a subset.
- Specify what the job should do if a video is unavailable or an item cannot be accessed.
- Tell listeners when the lineup changes if they rely on a predictable schedule.
Configure authorization and ordering
- Create or select a playlist in YouTube Studio and set its sorting to manual. API position updates require manual sorting.
- Set up an application or integration that can obtain authorized credentials for the channel. Playlist write operations require authorization; a public playlist alone does not grant permission to edit it.
- Have the external job use the API’s playlist-item insertion operation for new entries and position updates for reordering. The API provides the editing operations; your scheduler supplies the weekly trigger and your integration supplies the desired lineup.
- Before production changes, run a dry run against a test playlist. Log the target playlist and intended item positions, inspect the proposed changes, then enable the production job.
- After a run, verify the playlist order in Studio or from its viewer-facing page and review the job’s log for failed or skipped items.
API operations can fail when a playlist or item is unsupported or inaccessible, or when the authorization is insufficient. Check the API response and credentials rather than assuming a successful scheduler run means the playlist changed.

Keep scheduled publishing and live scheduling separate
Scheduled video publication
YouTube’s scheduled publishing feature can make a private video public at a chosen date, time, and time zone. It can support a release calendar, but publishing a video does not automatically rotate an existing playlist. YouTube also notes that the watch-page publication date follows Pacific Standard Time.
Scheduled live broadcast
If “radio” means a broadcast viewers join live, use the live-stream workflow in Studio’s Live Control Room rather than playlist ordering. For an encoder stream, YouTube provides a stream URL and key. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; this archive behavior does not create a recurring playlist schedule.

Do not mistake a series playlist for automation
A series playlist identifies an official set of videos intended to be viewed together; it is not a weekly rotation mechanism. YouTube says a verified account is required, a video cannot belong to more than one series playlist, and only videos uploaded by the creator and rights-cleared by them can be added.
Or let it run in the cloud
If what you actually need is a continuous YouTube broadcast of uploaded recordings—not a playlist whose order changes weekly—StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream plays at the quality uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube; it is not a camera broadcast or an automatic weekly playlist editor. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
