Advanced Scene Switcher automates OBS with macros: conditions that trigger actions. Use it to schedule a stream-related action, move between scenes, or connect media completion to a scene change—but treat it as local automation, not a guarantee that a stream will survive a reboot, power loss, network failure, or every YouTube interruption. For a dependable unattended setup, test the complete workflow before leaving it running.
What Advanced Scene Switcher can automate
Advanced Scene Switcher is an OBS plugin that pairs conditions with actions in macros. Depending on the workflow and installed version, conditions can involve date and time, scenes, media, or streaming state; actions can perform tasks such as switching scenes or carrying out streaming-related behavior. Its Macro Schedule tab supports scheduling macro actions for a chosen date and time.
The current OBS Resources listing identifies version 1.36.1, supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, and specifies OBS Studio 31.1.1 as the minimum. Plugin and OBS compatibility can change, so check the Advanced Scene Switcher listing and release notes against your installed OBS version before upgrading or building a schedule.
Prepare OBS before making macros
Check compatibility and protect your settings
- Confirm that your OBS Studio version meets the minimum for the plugin version you plan to install.
- Back up your OBS and plugin settings before changing an existing setup. The plugin’s update history documents fixes to shutdown and freeze behavior, which is a reminder to validate the version you run rather than assume automation is infallible.
- Install the plugin using its current listing and follow its current setup guidance. Field names and interface details may vary by release.
Configure the stream and scenes manually first
In OBS, select the streaming service and server, enter the stream key, and configure the scenes and sources the macros will control. Check that each scene works as intended before automating it. OBS notes that the appropriate streaming bitrate depends on both your upload speed and the service’s limits; choose settings suited to your connection and destination rather than assuming one bitrate works for every setup. See the OBS streaming guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. If you replace or regenerate it in the streaming platform, update the key in OBS before the next scheduled run.
Build a schedule or condition-driven macro
- Choose a specific trigger. For an action that should happen at a planned time, use the Macro Schedule tab or an appropriate date/time condition. For a transition that depends on what OBS is doing, choose a relevant scene, media, or streaming condition. Use the installed version’s help for exact control labels.
- Add only the actions that belong to that trigger. For example, a scheduled macro can perform a planned stream-related action; a scene or media condition can trigger a scene transition. Avoid combining unrelated actions in one macro if separating them makes failures easier to diagnose.
- Decide how the macro should run. Use the available interface options to determine whether a condition should repeat or whether the action should occur only when the condition changes. Confirm the behavior in a controlled test; a schedule alone does not determine what happens after a missed trigger or a restart.
- Save, then test the trigger and resulting action. Confirm that the intended condition is detected, the correct action runs, and OBS reaches the expected state. Check the plugin’s current documentation and release notes if the interface differs from the steps you expect.
Connect finite media to a scene change or stream stop
A community example describes configuring a media source to switch to another scene at the end, then using a scene trigger to stop streaming. This is a possible configuration pattern, not an official guarantee or a universal click-by-click procedure; validate it with your media source, scene setup, and installed plugin version. The example appears in an OBS community discussion.

- Set up the media source and the destination scene, then play the media in a test session.
- Configure the media-completion behavior to switch to the intended scene, if that behavior is available in your setup.
- Create a macro with a scene condition and the intended follow-up action, such as stopping the stream.
- Test the full sequence from media start through the final scene and stream state. Check what happens if the media is restarted, interrupted, or removed.
Test the entire unattended workflow
OBS recommends checking settings, scenes, and stream smoothness before a first live broadcast. For a scheduled or continuous stream, run through the exact sequence you plan to leave unattended. Do not infer from a successful scene change that OBS or the plugin will restart after the computer reboots, restore a failed internet connection, recover from encoder or power problems, or guarantee end-to-end uptime; the documented scheduling and macro features do not establish those guarantees.
- Test the planned start time and confirm the intended stream action occurs.
- Watch scene transitions and any media-completion behavior through the full sequence.
- Check the stream from the viewing side for smooth playback, audio, and the expected picture.
- Test the stop behavior and ensure it does not trigger prematurely or repeat unexpectedly.
- Where reliability matters, deliberately test relevant interruption cases—such as a lost connection or OBS restart—while present, and decide on a manual recovery plan.
For the platform’s account, broadcast-duration, and content requirements, check the current rules of the service you use. This guide does not establish those platform-specific rules.

When OBS WebSocket is useful—and when it is not
OBS WebSocket is built into OBS Studio 28 and later. It lets compatible external clients control OBS remotely, which can be useful for manual intervention; it is not required for Advanced Scene Switcher’s local macro scheduling. If you enable WebSocket, OBS strongly recommends protecting it with a password against unauthorized control. See the OBS remote-control guide.

A macro does not fire at the expected time
Recheck the schedule and condition in the installed version, confirm the macro is enabled, and test whether its condition is currently true. Verify the computer and OBS are running at the scheduled time; a scheduled action is not proof that OBS will launch after a reboot.

The wrong scene appears or the sequence stops early
Confirm the trigger refers to the intended scene or media source and that the action targets the correct destination. Test each transition separately, then replay the complete sequence, including media ending and any stop action.
The stream does not start or the connection is unstable
Check the selected service/server and stream key in OBS, then review bitrate against the available upload speed and platform limits. Test stream smoothness before relying on the schedule; a macro cannot fix an invalid key, insufficient connection, or service-side issue.

OBS or the plugin behaves differently after an update
Check the plugin listing for the version’s OBS minimum and read its recent update notes. Back up settings before changes, and retest the macros after installing an update, particularly shutdown and recovery behavior.
Remote controls are exposed
If you use OBS WebSocket, enable password protection and avoid exposing the control interface to untrusted networks. External control is optional; local macros do not require it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos, StreamNeo is an alternative to leaving OBS running on a home computer. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera or to platforms other than YouTube.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs in the cloud, so your computer can be off.
- Every slot uses one flat price for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; it is one free day per account.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start your free day.
