How to Automatically Tweet When You Go Live on Twitch or YouTube

Use IFTTT to connect Twitch’s stream-start trigger to an X post. For YouTube, Zapier documents a live-stream trigger, but confirm the X action is available in your account.

To automatically post on X when a Twitch stream starts, the clearest documented no-code option is an IFTTT Applet: connect Twitch and X, use Twitch’s New stream started by you trigger, and choose X’s Post a tweet action. For YouTube, Zapier documents a New Live Stream trigger, but you should confirm that an X posting action is available in your account before relying on it. Neither route guarantees an instant post: both check for events on a polling schedule.

Choose the route that matches where you stream

Route Documented trigger or behavior Published polling detail Best fit
IFTTT + Twitch + X Twitch New stream started by you trigger and an X post action IFTTT states every five minutes on Pro and Pro+, and every hour on Free A direct Twitch go-live announcement
Zapier + Twitch Twitch New Live Stream by Streamer trigger Zapier states its Free plan checks every 15 minutes A Twitch trigger in a broader workflow
Zapier + YouTube YouTube New Live Stream trigger, for a stream created or becoming active Zapier states its Free plan checks every 15 minutes A YouTube announcement, if an X action is available in your account
X-hosted live video X says a live video broadcast on X is automatically posted when you go live No third-party trigger interval is stated A broadcast hosted on X, rather than Twitch or YouTube

Polling intervals are service-published check frequencies, not measured end-to-end delivery times or guarantees. A trigger may be detected on a later check, and the resulting post may take additional time. If an announcement must appear at a particular time, schedule or publish it yourself rather than depending on an automation alone.

Set up an automatic Twitch-to-X post with IFTTT

  1. Open IFTTT’s Twitch-to-X integration. Choose a ready-made Applet if it matches what you want, or create a custom one. The available service connection and action options can change, so check what your account currently offers.
  2. Connect the correct accounts. Authorize the Twitch account that starts the broadcast and the X account that should publish the announcement. Read each service’s authorization prompt and make sure you have selected the intended accounts.
  3. Choose the Twitch trigger. Select New stream started by you. IFTTT lists trigger details such as the channel name, stream title, game, channel URL, preview image, and start time; the ingredients available to use in your post depend on the Applet setup.
  4. Choose the X action. Select Post a tweet, or Post a tweet with image if that option is available and you want to include one. X’s own documentation now calls a tweet a post, but IFTTT’s action label may still say “tweet.”
  5. Write and review the post. A simple template is: I’m live: [stream title] — watch here: [channel URL]. Replace the bracketed text with the trigger ingredients offered in your Applet, then review the message, account, and link before enabling it.
  6. Enable the Applet and check its activity. After your next broadcast, look at IFTTT’s activity or execution history if no post appears. That can help distinguish a missed trigger from an action or authorization error.

Timing and link limits

IFTTT describes its Twitch trigger as polling: its current integration documentation states checks every five minutes for Pro and Pro+ users and every hour for Free users. The post therefore may arrive after the stream begins; the interval is not a promise that it will publish within that exact window.

IFTTT’s X action documentation warns: “Affiliate URLs are not supported in Tweet text and will result in an Action error.” Keep affiliate URLs out of the post when using that action. A regular channel link is the practical choice for directing viewers to the stream.

Set up a YouTube live announcement with Zapier

  1. Create a Zap and choose YouTube as the trigger app. Select New Live Stream. Zapier describes this trigger as firing when a live stream is created or becomes active for a specified channel.
  2. Connect and authorize your YouTube account. Select the channel associated with the broadcast and provide the channel ID if the setup requests it. Review the Google/YouTube authorization screen before continuing.
  3. Test or verify the trigger in the workflow builder. Confirm that the selected channel and trigger are recognized. A trigger test depends on the information and test procedure Zapier currently makes available in your account.
  4. Add an X posting action only if it is offered. Search the available action apps for X and choose a post action if your connected account and plan expose one. The documented YouTube trigger alone does not establish that every Zapier user has an X action available.
  5. Map the announcement fields and enable the Zap. Use the stream title and live URL when those fields are supplied by the trigger. Check the finished post text and destination account before turning the workflow on.

Zapier’s YouTube integration page states that the Free plan polls every 15 minutes. This is the check frequency, not guaranteed time from going live to appearing on X. Confirm current trigger, action, and plan details inside your own workflow builder before depending on the automation.

What about IFTTT for YouTube?

IFTTT’s YouTube listings include a New video by channel trigger described as applying when a channel publishes a video, Short, or starts a livestream. That listing does not provide enough setup detail to promise a precise YouTube-go-live-to-X workflow. YouTube’s own IFTTT guidance focuses on Super Chat and membership-triggered interactions rather than establishing a general live-start announcement recipe.

Why an X live post is not the same as announcing Twitch or YouTube

X says that a live video broadcast hosted on X is automatically posted when you go live. That native behavior concerns X-hosted broadcasts; it does not announce that you have started a separate Twitch or YouTube stream. To share an external stream automatically, use a workflow that connects the streaming platform’s trigger to an X posting action.

Check these details before depending on an automation

  • Trigger platform: Verify that the workflow watches the channel or account that actually starts the broadcast.
  • Polling delay: Decide whether the service’s published check interval is acceptable. Polling is not an instant event notification or a delivery guarantee.
  • Destination action: Confirm that your account can select an X posting action; this is especially important for a YouTube-triggered Zap.
  • Authorization: If you change passwords, revoke permissions, or switch accounts, revisit the connected-account settings and reauthorize if required.
  • Post contents: Check that the stream title and URL are populated as expected, and remove affiliate URLs from IFTTT’s X action.
  • Execution history: When a post is missing, inspect the workflow’s activity or task history for a trigger, authorization, or action error before rebuilding it.

Troubleshoot a missing or delayed post

Symptom Likely check What to do
No post appears when the broadcast starts The polling check may not have run yet, or the trigger may not have detected the correct channel. Allow for the service’s stated polling interval, then inspect the workflow history and verify the connected streaming account and channel.
The workflow runs but the post fails The X action may have an authorization issue, unavailable action, or unsupported text content. Read the action error, reconnect the intended X account if needed, and remove affiliate URLs from IFTTT’s X post text.
The post has no usable stream link The trigger may not provide the expected URL ingredient, or the wrong field may be mapped. Review the trigger’s available fields and map the channel or live URL that the workflow actually supplies.
A YouTube stream does not trigger an X post The YouTube trigger may work while the X destination action is unavailable or not configured. Check both steps separately in Zapier: confirm the New Live Stream trigger, then confirm that an X post action is available in your account.
The announcement arrives late The automation checks periodically rather than continuously. Use the workflow’s activity history to confirm when it detected the event. If a precise posting time matters, post manually or use an appropriate scheduling option.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube channel live around the clock, rather than to publish an X announcement, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. It loops uploaded videos on YouTube; it does not post to X or start a camera broadcast. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream keeps running with your computer off. Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free first day on StreamNeo.
