Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBack up the complete local save folder for your specific game before its listed retirement date, and keep at least one dated copy on storage that is independent of Ubisoft’s servers. On Windows, Ubisoft Connect saves normally live under C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchersavegames<your Ubisoft Connect account ID>, followed by a numeric folder for the game. The number differs by title and sometimes by storefront, so identify it rather than guessing. Close both the game and Ubisoft Connect before copying, verify the copy, and preserve your account credentials until you have confirmed that the backup is usable.
What an online-service shutdown does—and does not do
Ubisoft retires online features on a title-by-title and platform-by-platform basis. There is no single date on which all Ubisoft Connect saves stop working. Ubisoft’s decommissioning table lists separate entries for individual games and platforms; examples in the table include 1 October 2022, 25 January 2024, 8 April 2024 and 4 June 2025. Those are historical dates, not a universal deadline for every game. Check the current row for the exact game, edition, platform and storefront you use.

Ubisoft describes the effect this way: the online multiplayer services, in-game news and player statistics for listed games are shut down, while the offline features remain available. That distinction matters. A retirement may remove multiplayer matchmaking, news feeds or statistics without deleting a local single-player save. It also does not guarantee that every launcher, entitlement check, downloadable add-on or cloud feature will continue indefinitely.
Ubisoft has changed announced dates before. In a 2022 notice, some planned shutdowns moved from 1 September to 1 October, and certain PC single-player downloadable content remained downloadable only until the change. Treat an old announcement, forum post or calendar reminder as secondary: verify the current official decommissioning entry before you make your final backup.

Match the game, platform and storefront
Write down the title, the platform and where you launch it. A game bought through Ubisoft Connect, Steam or Epic can use a different title folder identifier even when the game itself is the same. A backup from the wrong folder can look complete yet contain another game’s files.
- Game: use the exact title and edition named in the retirement notice.
- Platform: confirm that the notice applies to Windows PC, console or another platform you actually use.
- Storefront: note whether the installation is managed by Ubisoft Connect, Steam or Epic.
- Account: record the Ubisoft account that owns the game and keep its credentials available while the service still operates.
This procedure covers the Windows PC save location documented by Ubisoft. Console save management is platform-specific; do not apply the Windows path to a console and assume it contains your save.
Check whether the save is local, cloud-synchronized or both
Cloud synchronization is convenient, but it is not an offline copy under your control. A cloud slot can be corrupted, replaced during a conflict or become inaccessible if an account or associated service is terminated. Make an independent local copy even if the launcher reports that synchronization is current.
Find the Ubisoft Connect save folder on Windows
Ubisoft’s restoration instructions identify this default directory:
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchersavegames
Inside it is a folder named with your Ubisoft Connect account ID, usually a long string of letters and numbers. Open that account-ID folder and then locate the numeric subfolder belonging to the game.
Do not guess the numeric folder
The title folder is not necessarily the same number across storefronts. Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege instructions give one concrete example: folder ID 635 is used for Ubisoft Connect and Epic installations, while 1843 is used for Steam. Those numbers are evidence of a storefront difference for that title, not a universal mapping. Use the game’s Ubisoft Help page or title-specific instructions to identify your own folder.

If more than one account-ID folder exists, do not copy all of them indiscriminately and assume the problem is solved. Match the folder to the Ubisoft account that launches the game, then identify the title-specific numeric folder. Keeping an untouched copy of the source makes it possible to correct a mistaken selection without destroying the original.
Step-by-step: make a reliable offline backup
1. Confirm the retirement entry
Open Ubisoft’s current decommissioning table and find the row for your exact game and platform. Note the listed date and which services are being retired. If the title is not listed, do not invent a shutdown date; continue normal backups and recheck the official table when Ubisoft publishes a notice.
2. Create a fresh in-game save
Launch the game while it is still available, reach a safe point, and perform a normal in-game save. Wait for any save icon or confirmation to finish. This gives the copy a known recent state instead of relying on an older file whose contents you have not checked.
3. Exit the game completely
Use the game’s quit command and wait until its window and process have closed. Do not copy while the game is writing checkpoints, rotating files or updating metadata.

4. Exit Ubisoft Connect PC
Quit Ubisoft Connect from its own menu or notification-area icon, not merely by closing the main window. The launcher can continue synchronizing after the window disappears. Wait until it has exited before opening the save directory.
5. Browse to the account-ID directory
In File Explorer, enter C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchersavegames. Open the long account-ID folder associated with the game. If the default Ubisoft installation location was changed, use the Ubisoft Game Launcher folder on that installation drive rather than creating a new empty path; the objective is the folder that contains the existing save data.
6. Identify and copy the complete game folder
Use the game-specific Ubisoft Help instructions to select the numeric title folder. Copy the entire folder, including every file and subfolder, to a separate location. A USB flash drive, portable SSD or external hard drive works for this purpose. Do not cut or move the source; leave the original in place until the copy has been checked.

Name the destination clearly, for example GameName_save_2026-10-17. Include the game, platform or storefront and date when those details will help you distinguish multiple backups. Ubisoft’s own guidance is concise: copy the save folder to a safe location to create a backup.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →7. Verify that the copy completed
Open the copied folder and compare its file names and sizes with the source. Confirm that the number of files and subfolders appears consistent and that the copy is not an empty directory. This check catches a disconnected drive, a permissions error or a copy operation that stopped early.
A matching list of names and sizes does not prove that the save is playable. It proves only that the visible file set was copied. Keep the original and the first backup until you have tested a restoration on a suitable installation.
8. Make a second dated copy for valuable progress
For a long campaign or a nearly completed game, create another dated copy on a different physical device or in a separate location. Two copies protect against one failed drive, accidental deletion or a damaged transfer. Do not overwrite yesterday’s known-good copy every time you make a new one; retaining dates lets you return to an earlier state.
9. Store the device and credentials safely
Disconnect the removable drive after the copy and keep it away from the computer when it is not being used. Retain the Ubisoft account credentials needed to launch the game while Ubisoft Connect remains available. An account closure can remove access to games and progression even when a local folder still exists on a PC.

The strongest plan combines an independent removable copy with versioned backups when available. Each method protects against a different failure mode.
| Method | Independence from Ubisoft servers | Recovery if the launcher or account has a problem | Portability between PCs | Dated versions | Main overwrite risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| USB flash drive or portable SSD | High after the files are copied and the drive is disconnected | High, provided the game can read the restored folder and any required entitlement remains available | High; the device can be moved to another Windows PC | Easy to create manually with date-labeled folders | Copying the wrong folder over the source or reusing one destination without dates |
| External hard drive | High when stored offline | High, with capacity for several dated copies | High, though the drive is less convenient to carry than flash storage | Easy; suitable for retaining many snapshots | Drive failure or accidental deletion if it is the only copy |
| Windows File History | Independent when configured to a local external drive | Good for retrieving an earlier folder version without relying on Ubisoft’s cloud | Moderate; the File History drive and Windows access are required | Built in through its version history | It is not protection if File History was never enabled or the history drive is unavailable |
| Ubisoft cloud synchronization | Low; it remains service-dependent | Limited if Ubisoft Connect, the account or the cloud data is unavailable | Convenient on supported installations | Usually managed by the service rather than by folders you control | Selecting the wrong side of a conflict can overwrite the desired progress |
Ubisoft explicitly supports restoring backed-up saves and says Windows File History can restore backed-up saves. Cloud synchronization should supplement those copies, not replace them.

Resolve a cloud-save conflict without losing the good version
A conflict prompt can offer a local save and a cloud save. Before selecting either one, preserve both versions if the interface allows it: close the game and copy the current local save folder to a separate, dated location. Choosing the wrong version can overwrite the progress you intended to keep.
For a corrupted cloud version, Ubisoft’s troubleshooting sequence is:
- Quit the game.
- Disable cloud synchronization in Ubisoft Connect.
- Start the game and make a save using the local data.
- Exit the game.
- Re-enable cloud synchronization.
- Restart the game and choose the local save when Ubisoft Connect prompts you.
The local save then overwrites the corrupted cloud version. The sequence assumes that the local copy is the one you want. If you are uncertain, stop before the final choice and preserve both folders first.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Restore a backup after a failed update or damaged save
Ubisoft’s restoration procedure requires a backup copy. Keep the game and Ubisoft Connect closed while restoring.
- Confirm that the backup belongs to the same game, account and storefront.
- Copy the backed-up game folder so the original backup remains untouched.
- Open
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchersavegames<account ID>. - Place the backed-up numeric game folder in that account-ID folder, following the game’s Ubisoft Help instructions.
- Start Ubisoft Connect and the game, then check that the expected progress appears.
Before replacing a current folder, make a separate copy of that current folder. That precaution gives you a way back if the dated backup is older than expected or belongs to a different installation. Do not delete the only copy while testing.
Use Windows File History when it was already configured
If File History was enabled for the drive containing the save folder, open its restore interface, browse to the Ubisoft Game Launcher save path and select a dated version of the game folder. Restore it to the account-ID directory with Ubisoft Connect closed. File History is useful because it can retain earlier versions, but it cannot recover files that were never included in its history or a history drive that has been lost.
What account closure changes
Ubisoft’s account-closure help states that closing an account removes access to Ubisoft games, in-game progression, Ubisoft Connect and other Ubisoft online services, and that associated data cannot be restored after closure. Ubisoft’s Terms of Use likewise state that termination of an account or associated service causes loss of save files and in-game progression related to those services.

That is separate from a title’s retirement date. A game may retain offline features after online services are shut down, while closing the account can remove access to the game and its progression altogether. Make and verify your local copies before closing an account, changing ownership arrangements or uninstalling the launcher.
Troubleshooting the backup
The expected numeric folder is not obvious
Recheck the title-specific Ubisoft Help instructions and the storefront. Do not use a number copied from another game or from a different storefront. If the game has not yet produced a local save, launch it, save normally, exit both applications and inspect the directory again.
The copy contains fewer files than the source
Keep the source untouched, reconnect the destination drive and copy the complete folder again. Compare names and sizes after the second attempt. A successful file copy still does not establish that the game will accept the data, so retain the earlier dated copy until restoration has been tested.

Ubisoft Connect reports a conflict after restoration
Do not click through automatically. Close the game, preserve the local and backup folders separately, and then use the cloud-conflict sequence above. Select the local version only when you have confirmed that it contains the intended progress.
The game launches but the progress is missing
Close the game and launcher, then verify that the restored folder is under the correct account-ID directory and that the numeric folder matches the game and storefront. Check that the backup date is newer than the last known good save. If the account or associated service has been terminated, a local folder may not restore access to the game itself.
A shutdown-ready checklist
- Find the current retirement row for the exact game and platform.
- Record the storefront and Ubisoft account used to launch it.
- Make a fresh in-game save.
- Exit the game and Ubisoft Connect completely.
- Open the account-ID folder below
Ubisoft Game Launchersavegames. - Identify the title-specific numeric folder from Ubisoft’s instructions.
- Copy the complete folder to disconnected removable storage.
- Compare the copied files and sizes with the source.
- Create a second dated copy when the progress is valuable.
- Keep the source, backups and account credentials until restoration has been confirmed.
Official Ubisoft material does not publish a qualifying percentage or count for save losses during shutdowns. The dependable protection is procedural: use the correct title and storefront folder, make an independent copy before the relevant date, preserve versions, and avoid closing the account until you have confirmed what remains accessible.
