To ban someone from a live Core Keeper server, press Esc, open Manage Players, select the player, click the red action icon beside the name, and confirm Yes. To reverse it, open the same screen, switch to Banned Players, select the name, click the red icon, and confirm Yes. On a dedicated server that is offline, edit PlayerBans.json instead; stop the server first and preserve valid JSON.

The menu is the safest option when you are in the game. File editing is useful when the server is stopped or a managed host gives you configuration access. Both methods depend on administrator rights, and the ban record is keyed to a player’s SteamID rather than merely the character name.

What you need before changing a ban
You must have administrator privileges in the server. For a dedicated server, administration is associated with your SteamID in Admins.json. Several hosting guides also report that the first player to log in receives admin access automatically, after which additional administrators can be added in-game or through the server configuration. Treat that first-login behavior as a commonly reported setup detail rather than a guarantee for every host or version.
- Be logged into the correct Core Keeper world and server.
- Confirm that your account is an administrator; a normal player will not see the moderation controls.
- For file changes, obtain access to the host’s
DedicatedServeror save directory and know how to stop and start the service. - Identify the player’s exact SteamID when working with files. A character name can change or be duplicated, while the ban record is tied to the SteamID.
Menu capitalization can vary slightly between versions: guides describe both “Manage Players” and “Manage players.” Choose the label your build displays.

Ban a player while the server is running
Use the in-game moderation menu
- Join the Core Keeper server with an administrator account.
- Press Esc to open the pause menu.
- Select Manage Players (or the same label with different capitalization).
- Find the player in the player list. Check the name carefully before acting, particularly when several players have similar names.
- Click the red action icon beside that player’s name.
- When the confirmation prompt appears, choose Yes.
The player should be removed from the session and prevented from rejoining under the Steam account recorded by the server. If the player remains connected, wait briefly for the session to update, then check the player list again. Do not repeatedly click the control; first verify whether the list or connection state has changed.
What the live ban does not require
You do not need to open a console, edit a text file, or shut down the world for this procedure. The menu is intended for an administrator who needs to act during play. Exact button graphics and wording can change, so follow the red icon and confirmation prompt shown by your current build rather than a screenshot from another version.

Remove the entry from Banned Players
- Press Esc while logged into the server as an administrator.
- Open Manage Players.
- Switch from the active player list to Banned Players.
- Locate the player you want to restore. Use the name as a visual check, but remember that the underlying ban is associated with the account identifier.
- Click the red action icon beside the name.
- Confirm the change by selecting Yes.
The account can then attempt to join again. If it cannot connect immediately, have the player leave and restart the game, then verify that the server is running the same world and that no second ban entry exists for the same SteamID.

Ban or unban by editing PlayerBans.json
File editing is the alternative when nobody with the required account can use the live menu, or when a host’s control panel exposes the dedicated-server files. The relevant file is generally named PlayerBans.json and is located in a DedicatedServer directory, although hosts place that directory differently. One documented hosting layout uses /core-keeper/DedicatedServer/; another may put the file in a save folder. Use your host’s file browser or service documentation to locate the active world’s file rather than assuming a universal path.
Stop the server before editing
- Notify connected players and stop the Core Keeper dedicated-server process from the host panel or service manager.
- Make a backup copy of
PlayerBans.jsonbefore changing it. Keep the original available for recovery. - Open the file in a plain-text editor that does not add rich-text formatting.
- Inspect the existing structure. Reports describe a top-level
banListarray. Examples from hosting guides contain fields such asname, steamId, andindex; another example includescrossPlatformId. The exact field set is not confirmed for every Core Keeper version or host. - For a ban, add the player using the same object structure already present in your file and the player’s exact SteamID. Do not invent a different schema or replace the whole file with an example copied from another host.
- For an unban, remove only the object corresponding to that SteamID from the
banListarray. Leave unrelated entries unchanged. - Save the file, then validate that the JSON remains syntactically correct. Every opening brace and bracket must have a matching closing character, strings need quotation marks, and items in an array need commas in the proper places.
- Start the server and test with the affected account. If the change is not recognized, stop the service again, restore the backup if necessary, and check that you edited the file belonging to the active world.
A malformed file can prevent changes from being read after a restart and may interfere with server startup. The most common avoidable mistake is deleting or adding a comma while editing an array. Editing an existing entry in place is safer than manually reconstructing the entire file.
Do not use a character name as the identifier
PlayerBans.json records bans by SteamID. Names shown in the file are descriptive fields and may not be reliable identifiers after a rename. If your host supplies both a platform identifier and a cross-platform identifier, retain the fields and format already used by that file. Because published examples disagree about whether crossPlatformId is present, do not delete an unfamiliar field just to make the entry look like an online example.

Finding and maintaining administrator access
Check Admins.json on a dedicated server
The administrator list is commonly stored as Admins.json alongside the dedicated-server files. Guides describe an adminList section containing values such as an index, privileges, name, and SteamID. As with the ban file, paths and exact formatting vary by host.
- Stop the server before changing administrator configuration.
- Open the
Admins.jsonused by the active dedicated server. - Confirm that your SteamID appears in the administrator list and that the entry has the expected privilege data.
- If adding an administrator, copy the structure of an existing entry instead of guessing field names or value types.
- Save valid JSON, restart the server, and log in with the account that should have moderation access.
If you cannot see Manage Players after a restart, verify the SteamID first. A name-only entry, a typo, or editing a similarly named file in an inactive save directory can leave the account without admin rights.
Managed hosting considerations
On a managed host, you may have a web file manager, an SFTP area, or no direct file access at all. If the provider does not expose PlayerBans.json or Admins.json, use the in-game menu when possible or follow that provider’s current Core Keeper procedure. Do not edit a downloaded copy while the live service continues writing its own file; your changes may be overwritten or never read.

Choosing between the menu and the file
| Method | Best use | Requirements | Main risk or limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-game menu | Immediate moderation while the world is online | Administrator account and access to the game UI | Labels and layout can differ by version; it cannot help if no admin can log in |
PlayerBans.json |
Changes made while the dedicated server is stopped, or when the host exposes files | Host file access, the correct SteamID, and a valid JSON edit | Wrong path, wrong identifier, or malformed JSON can make the change ineffective |
| Host support or panel workflow | Managed servers where configuration files are hidden | Provider access and its current Core Keeper instructions | Controls and paths are provider-specific |
If the server is online and you have administrator access, use the menu. Choose file editing only when you can stop the service safely and make a verified backup. The ability to stop the server, access to its files, and the reliability of the SteamID you have identified are the practical decision points.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Slash commands: why you should be cautious
Community hosting articles disagree about command-based moderation. Some list /kick, /ban, and /unban, with one description saying that /ban accepts a Galaxy ID. Other guides state that Core Keeper has no command console, no RCON interface, and no kick, ban, or unban command, with moderation handled through the pause menu instead.
Because these accounts conflict and are not confirmed by official developer documentation, do not make a slash command the basis of your server policy. A command copied from a different game, an older build, or a host-specific plugin may do nothing or target the wrong identifier. The in-game player-management screen and the stopped-server file method are the better-corroborated options. If your host documents an enabled command system for your exact version, verify it against that host’s current instructions before using it on a live world.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Troubleshooting bans and unbans
The player can still join after a menu ban
- Confirm that the action was performed by an administrator and that the confirmation prompt was accepted.
- Check the Banned Players list to see whether an entry was created.
- Make sure the player is reconnecting to the same server and world, not a second instance with a similar name.
- If several accounts share similar display names, verify the affected Steam account rather than relying on the visible name.
An unbanned player still cannot connect
- Reopen Manage Players and confirm the name no longer appears under Banned Players.
- Have the player restart the game and retry after the server has finished updating.
- Check for a second ban entry tied to the same SteamID when file access is available.
- Verify that the player is using the intended account; changing a character name does not change the account identifier recorded by the server.
A file edit has no effect
- Stop the server and confirm you edited the file in the active
DedicatedServeror save directory. - Check that the SteamID is exact and that you did not edit only the display-name field.
- Validate the JSON and compare its object structure with other entries already in that file.
- Restart the service after saving. A running process may continue using the old in-memory list.
- If the server fails to read the file, restore the backup and ask the host for the current file format.
You cannot find PlayerBans.json or Admins.json
There is no single confirmed path for every host. Search the host’s Core Keeper installation and save directories for the exact filenames, check whether the provider uses a separate configuration area, and confirm that you are looking at the dedicated server rather than a client-side save. One hosting layout places the files under /core-keeper/DedicatedServer/, but that path is not universal.
Do not apply the Palworld ban-list procedure
Instructions that tell you to edit banlist.txt under /Pal/Saved/SaveGames and delete a SteamID describe Palworld, not Core Keeper. Core Keeper uses its player-management menu and, for dedicated-server file administration, PlayerBans.json. Following the Palworld procedure will not change a Core Keeper ban.
Version and documentation limits in 2026
Current third-party guidance does not establish a confirmed 2026 change to the ban workflow, administrator files, or the structure of PlayerBans.json. One published excerpt mentions a 1.3.0.3 update in connection with console commands, but it is unattributed and does not verify a ban-system change. Check the official Core Keeper patch notes and your host’s current documentation before relying on a file path, field name, or command that differs from the steps above.
In practical terms, the durable rules are: use Esc → Manage Players for live moderation; look under Banned Players to reverse a ban; use the SteamID in the dedicated-server files; stop the service before editing; and preserve valid JSON. Where your build or host presents different labels, follow the current interface and existing file schema rather than copying an unverified example.
