You can beat it on your first visit if you activate the Outside the Forest shrine, wait out each committed heavy attack, and spend your stamina on short punishes instead of long combos. If the shrine runback or your attempts are wearing you down, leaving and returning later is a reasonable choice, but a third-party strategy guide warns that one Chapter 1 route can make the Spirit reward unavailable if you finish it first.
Where to find Wandering Wight
The boss is in Chapter 1, Forest of Wolves, near the Outside the Forest shrine. The encounter appears along the path from that shrine, so the shrine is your practical starting point. A second guide lists the location as Chapter 1, then Forest of Wolves, then Outside the Forest.

Activate the shrine before you start making attempts. Each failed attempt then means a shorter walk back, and you can rest and reset between tries.
Is Wandering Wight required?
No. The boss is optional, so you can progress through Chapter 1 without fighting it. The trade-off is reward timing, covered below.

Should you fight it as soon as you see it?
Not necessarily. Decide based on three things:
- Runback: Can you reach the boss from the shrine without burning through enemies and resources on the way?
- Stamina control: Can you dodge a committed attack, land a short string, and still have stamina left for the next defense?
- Plans for the Spirit: Do you need the Spirit reward before moving on through the Chapter 1 secret-area bell route?
If the first two answers are yes, fight now. If the runback is a chore or your attempts are not teaching you the rhythm, leave and come back once you have more upgrades or a clearer plan. Returning later costs you nothing except the time to walk back, provided you have not triggered the reward warning below.
How the fight works
Wandering Wight is described as slow-looking but punishing, with heavy close-range attacks. Strategy guides call out overhead slams and sweeping arm pressure. The main mistake is treating a dodged first hit as the end of the danger. Wait for the full committed movement and any follow-up pressure to finish before you step back in.
Step 1: Start with full stamina
Enter the exchange with your stamina bar as full as you can make it. The fight is not about winning a long trade. It is about getting a few clean openings.

Step 2: Dodge the committed attack
Watch for the heavy move to commit. Dodge it rather than blocking, then let the animation complete. Re-engaging early is the most common way to get caught by the follow-up.

Step 3: Take a short punish
Land a short attack string during the recovery window. Keep it brief enough that you can disengage with stamina to spare.
Step 4: Disengage and reset
Step back while you still have stamina for the next dodge. Avoid emptying the bar on a long string, because a depleted stamina bar turns the next committed attack into a much more dangerous moment.

Using Immobilize well
Immobilize is available to you, but using it automatically on cooldown is a mistake. Hold it for the moments when the boss has committed to an attack and you can convert that opening into real damage or a safe heal. If you cannot do either, save it for the next opening.
The Spirit reward warning
If the Spirit matters to your build or plans, defeat Wandering Wight before you complete the Chapter 1 secret-area bell route. A third-party strategy guide says that finishing the bell route first can make the Spirit unavailable on that playthrough. We could not confirm this with an official developer source at the time of writing, so treat it as the guide’s warning rather than a guaranteed rule. If the reward is important to you, the safest course is to fight the boss before you finish that route.

Quick checklist before you attempt the fight
- Activate the Outside the Forest shrine.
- Decide whether you need the Spirit before the bell route. If yes, fight before finishing that route.
- Enter with full stamina and plan to disengage after each short punish.
- Dodge the committed heavy attack and wait for the full recovery before attacking.
- Save Immobilize for openings where it deals damage or gives a safe heal.
- Leave and return if attempts are not producing useful timing or draining your focus.
Current patch behavior and the exact reward state on a given save can differ from what guides describe, so if the fight plays out differently, check the boss’s status on your save before assuming the reward is still available.
