Traitorous Straghess, also called the Dreglord, is a Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign’s The Forsaken Hollows expansion. A secondary encounter guide describes a fight with two health bars and three phases: learn the sweep and slam cues, evade the Scarlet Rot explosions, and adjust when pillars and faster leaps enter the arena. The damage-type evidence is contradictory, so treat any claimed weakness as unconfirmed rather than building around it.

What to expect in the Dreglord fight

Mobalytics’ guide, updated December 8, 2025, describes two full health bars and three phases. The opening phase is slower and built around broad sweeps, slams, charges, and rot-ball attacks. The second bar makes the encounter more chaotic; at about half of that bar, pillars appear and the boss begins leaping faster. The timings and health thresholds below are estimates reported by that guide, not independently tested measurements.

Nightreign expeditions provide the preparation context: two exploration days with mandatory night bosses lead to the Nightlord battle on day three. Bandai Namco’s June 17, 2025 starter guide says the game is primarily balanced for cooperative play with two other players, though solo play is available and scales enemy HP down. That is general expedition guidance, not a Straghess-specific party requirement. Read Bandai Namco’s starter guide.

How to handle phase one

Sweeps, slams, and the crouching combo

For the initial sweep-and-slam pattern, Mobalytics recommends dodging through the first sweep and slam rather than retreating in a straight line. When Straghess crouches to start two sweeps followed by an overhead slam, prioritize opening space before the follow-up so the chained attacks are less likely to catch you.

Charge and erratic sweeps

When the boss charges, the guide advises moving to its left and dodging through the charge. Do not treat that dodge as the end of the sequence: move away from the erratic sweeps that follow.

Rot balls and the large blast

Mobalytics places a smaller rot-ball move at roughly 80% of the first health bar and a giant rot-ball explosion at roughly 50%. Those thresholds are approximate guide observations. The large ball can pull players inward before exploding; create distance rather than staying close to attack. After the blast, watch for lingering ground explosions and smaller enemies.

How phase two changes the fight

Leap-and-sweep sequence

The secondary guide describes phase two as faster and less predictable. For the leap-and-sweep sequence, it recommends dodging into the boss, then rolling away or using an Ultimate Art to avoid the follow-up explosion.

Roaming combo and targeting circle

If a targeting circle appears during the roaming combo, track the boss instead of reacting only to the marker. Evade as it approaches, when the attack is about to connect.

How to survive phase three

At about half health on the second bar, pillars appear and Straghess gains faster leaping attacks, according to Mobalytics. The extra obstacles make lateral movement and awareness of your escape route more important.

Center rot-ball attack

The guide says an Ultimate Art can stagger the attack that drops a rot ball in the arena’s center. If you cannot interrupt it, treat the ball as a major hazard and be ready to move away from its blast and the ground effects that remain.

Pillar rushes and low-health blast

When the boss begins a pillar rush, roll sideways or keep moving laterally. In the low-health giant rot-ball sequence, Mobalytics identifies a red flash as the cue to roll when the attack triggers. Expect hazardous lines to linger and Rot buildup to remain a threat after the explosion.

How to manage Scarlet Rot

Rot-ball attacks can combine pull-in pressure, delayed explosions, lingering hazards, and smaller enemies. Mobalytics recommends carrying Preserving Boluses to address Scarlet Rot buildup. Use them when you have a safe opening; healing or item use during an incoming combo can leave you exposed. The red-flash timing above is that guide’s suggested cue, not an official move description.

Does the Dreglord have a weakness?

The available claims conflict. Mobalytics says the boss has no weaknesses and recommends strong equipment rather than a specific element. An Eldenpedia damage-negation table, accessed in 2026, instead reports negative negation values for several types, which in that table’s convention means the boss takes increased damage. The wiki page could not be opened, and neither claim is an official patch note, so regard the figures as reference data rather than confirmed build advice.

Damage type Reported damage negation How to read it
Slash −10% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) Table convention indicates increased damage taken.
Pierce −10% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) Table convention indicates increased damage taken.
Fire −20% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) Table convention indicates increased damage taken.
Holy −25% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) Table convention indicates increased damage taken.
Standard 0% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) No change indicated by the table.
Strike 0% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) No change indicated by the table.
Magic 0% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) No change indicated by the table.
Lightning 10% (Eldenpedia table, accessed 2026) Positive negation indicates reduced damage taken in the table’s convention.

Given the disagreement and lack of an official confirmation, choose a weapon and damage type you can use reliably instead of assuming one is a tested best option. See the Eldenpedia reference and Mobalytics’ encounter guide.

What do you get for defeating Traitorous Straghess?

The first defeat rewards The Night of Dregs. Its reference describes attack-power benefits while a status buildup is active and effects involving Rot and recovery; check the current in-game relic description for exact effects before planning around specific values.
