To become a star in The Sims, you need The Sims: Superstar expansion. Sign with the SimCity Talent Agency, build Charisma, Creativity, and Body, then perform in Studio Town. Successful sets add fame and money; poor performances can cost fame, and star power needs ongoing attention.
What you need to start
The Fame career and Studio Town are features of The Sims: Superstar, which adds entertainment careers that you can play through rather than sending your Sim away to an unseen standard job. In a 2003 interview, producer Jonathan Knight said that every Sim has the potential to become a star and identified Charisma, Creativity, and Body as skills used to advance on the fame path. GameSpot’s interview with Jonathan Knight and its report on the expansion’s announcement describe the setup.
Sign with the SimCity Talent Agency
Wait for Nancy the Paper Girl to deliver the Studio Town tabloid, then use it to sign up with the SimCity Talent Agency. Signing with an agent and visiting Studio Town are the entry points to the Fame career; simply raising skills at home does not start the career.
Prepare your Sim for performances
Develop the three skills tied to fame: Charisma, Creativity, and Body. They affect performance on early objects and contribute to advancement requirements at higher star levels. The higher-level thresholds listed in the community-maintained Sims Wiki Fame reference are useful targets, not requirements for beginning the career.

- Players start life in a barn and move up to a mansion with a view.
- Group Activities: Whether it's roasting marshmallows around a campfire or playing charades in the family room, there's much more for your Sims to do together.
- New Music and Dance Moves: Build a dance floor with a DJ booth and watch your Sims take to the floor with new moves based on five music styles (rap, techno, country, beach, and disco).
- Add a pet to your Sims family, get a job, explore the expanded neighborhood with 30 new residential lots and five community lots in this Sims run wild.
- Fabulous new objects like a skydiving simulator, a satellite dish, and a new art and furniture collection can turn an ordinary Sim's abode into a magnificent and decadent manse.
Perform in Studio Town and earn fame
Travel to Studio Town and choose an entertainment object your Sim’s current star level permits. The general unlock sequence begins with karaoke and the open microphone, then opens print-ad photo shoots, jingles, commercials, modeling, soap operas, albums, fashion runways, music videos, and movie sets as fame rises. The Fame reference gives the object-by-object progression in half-star increments; an object that is too advanced will turn your Sim away.
At a set, pay attention to the director’s requested song, scene, shoot, or show and select actions that suit it. Knight described the record-studio set as asking players to choose a music genre and singing styles for song sections, with the producer’s preferences affecting the result and pay. More advanced sets offer more choices, and mismatched choices can prompt negative reactions. A successful set performance earns fame and money; a failed one can reduce fame.

Meet the requirements for higher star levels
Promotions depend on skill and the combined star power of celebrity friends—not just a large circle of ordinary friends. Celebrity relationships can be difficult to build, particularly when the celebrity has substantially more fame than your Sim. The Fame reference lists these high-end thresholds:
| Star level | Charisma | Body | Creativity | Friends’ total star power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4.5 stars | 8 | 7 | 8 | 14 |
| 5 stars | 10 | 8 | 9 | 18 |
These are in-game requirements reported by the community-maintained Fame reference, not real-world statistics or independently tested results.
Keep your fame from fading
Continue making appearances and avoid poor performances: missed work and failed sets can reduce fame. The Fame reference says star power continues to decay daily at five stars, so reaching the top level does not end the need to work.
