The reliable fix is to deny the game site’s permission in your browser. Open the site’s permissions panel, set Camera, Microphone, and Location to Block or Deny, then check your operating system if the camera or microphone still appears available. Browser permissions and device privacy controls are separate layers.
Use the browser instructions below for the game’s domain. Blocking a permission can disable a feature that depends on it, but it does not require extra software or hardware.

Choose the right control before you start
A browser game can request protected capabilities only through the browser’s permission system. The most precise response is to block the individual game site. A global browser setting blocks requests from many or all sites. Windows camera and microphone controls are broader still: they can prevent desktop applications from using the hardware, not just one game.

Make the change while the game’s exact domain is open. A permission saved for example.com may not apply to a different subdomain or embedded service. If a game loads its chat, video, or login feature from another domain, that embedded domain may have its own permission entry.

Decide whether you need a lasting block or merely want to clear an old choice. Resetting or deleting a permission usually makes the browser ask again; selecting Block, Deny, or Never allow is what creates an explicit refusal.
Chrome on a computer
Block the current game site
- Open the game in Chrome.
- Select the site-information icon to the left of the web address. Depending on the version, this appears as a sliders or lock-style icon.
- Choose Site settings.
- Find Camera, Microphone, and, when present, Location.
- Change each capability you want to stop to Never allow or the equivalent blocked option.
- Close the settings tab. Chrome saves the change automatically.
If Chrome offers Reset permissions, use it to clear customized decisions for that site. The next request will ask again, allowing you to make a fresh choice rather than inheriting an old exception. If you need the game blocked without another prompt, choose the explicit blocked setting after resetting.
Manage camera and microphone permissions centrally
- Select the three-dot menu, then open Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security > Site settings.
- Open Camera or Microphone.
- Review the Allowed and Not allowed lists.
- Find the game’s domain and change its entry, or remove the entry so Chrome asks again next time.
Chrome’s permission choices can include Allow this time, Allow while visiting the site, and Never allow. Choose the blocking option for a game you do not want to access the device. Chrome can also remove permissions from sites that have not been used recently, so an old decision may disappear and need to be set again. Google describes this as a data-protection measure, not as evidence that the site was allowed to keep using the device.
Block future requests more broadly
In the Camera or Microphone page under Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings, change the default behavior so sites must not use the device unless you explicitly add an exception. This is useful on a shared computer, but it affects legitimate sites such as voice-chat or video-call pages. A per-site block is less disruptive when only one game is the concern.
Chrome’s exact wording can differ by release, account type, or a work or school policy. If you cannot edit a list or your choice later changes, check whether the browser is managed. A policy can define allowed or blocked sites for everyone using that Chrome installation.
Firefox on desktop
Block a game in the camera or microphone list
- Open the Firefox menu and select Settings.
- Choose Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to Permissions.
- Select Settings beside Camera or Microphone.
- Select the game’s entry and set it to Block.
- Select Save Changes if Firefox presents that button.
Firefox also provides Block new requests asking to access your camera and the equivalent microphone option. Enabling those switches blocks new prompts broadly; existing site entries can still be reviewed in the same settings dialog. This is the better choice when you do not want to approve any newly encountered game, while a single entry is safer for a computer used for meetings or calls.
Use the current-site permissions panel
With the game open, select the permissions icon in Firefox’s address bar. The panel shows saved camera and microphone decisions for the current site. Selecting the X beside an allowed or blocked status clears that saved decision. Firefox will ask again on the next visit, which is useful when you want to replace an accidental “Allow” with “Block.” Clearing the status is not itself a permanent denial.

When the page never displays a prompt
- Open the page’s information panel and choose Page Info.
- Open the Permissions tab.
- Find Use Camera or Use Microphone.
- Clear Use Default.
- Select Block.
These steps set a decision even when the game does not currently trigger a request. Firefox’s Android and iOS app permissions are a separate layer from the desktop, per-site controls described here; an app-level permission does not identify or block one website by itself. The desktop instructions should not be assumed to describe Firefox on a phone.
Safari on a Mac
These menu paths apply to Safari on macOS. They should not be treated as iPhone or iPad instructions.
Deny the game’s camera, microphone, or location
- Open Safari and load the game.
- Choose Safari > Settings, then open Websites.
- Select Camera in the sidebar.
- Find the game domain and choose Deny from its menu.
- Repeat the process under Microphone and Location if you want all three blocked.
Safari’s choices are generally presented as Ask, Deny, or Allow. Select Deny for a lasting refusal. Leaving a site at Ask can still produce a prompt the next time the game requests access, which is different from blocking it.
Safari also has a When visiting other websites default for sites that are not listed individually. Set that default to Deny when you want new sites blocked unless you make an exception. For a game that is already open, the Page menu can open Website Settings, where you can change the current site’s choices directly.

Microsoft Edge
Block camera or microphone for one game
- Open the Edge menu and select Settings.
- Go to Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All sites.
- Select the game’s domain.
- Set Camera to Block.
- Set Microphone to Block if required.
You can also open the address-bar information or permissions menu while the game is loaded and change the site’s media permissions there. This is usually faster when you are correcting one site rather than auditing every entry. If the game uses a separate embedded voice or video provider, inspect that provider’s domain as well.
Block precise location
- Open Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Location.
- To stop precise-location prompts broadly, turn off Ask before accessing.
- To block only the game, open its address-bar permissions menu and set Location to Block.
Microsoft states that Edge asks before supplying a site with precise location through its location mechanism. Windows can estimate location using signals such as an IP address, nearby Wi-Fi access points, and GPS when available. Turning off Windows location services does not make all approximate-location inference impossible: a website can still estimate a general area from an IP address. The Edge permission controls the precise location supplied through Edge’s mechanism.

Therefore, a location block is valuable but should not be described as making you invisible. It prevents the browser from handing over precise location through its permission-controlled feature; it cannot remove every network clue a website may observe.
Use Windows controls for a broader camera or microphone block
If the camera or microphone remains available after you block the game in the browser, check Windows. These controls affect more than one website and can also affect other applications.
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Open Camera and review Camera access, access for apps, and access for desktop apps.
- Open Microphone and review the corresponding access switches.
- Turn off the level that matches your goal, then revisit the browser’s site permission.
Windows can permit Edge at the operating-system level while the game remains blocked at the browser level. The reverse is also true: if Windows denies access, an allowed site cannot capture through that device. Microsoft identifies operating-system privacy settings, browser site permission, and hardware or driver availability as distinct prerequisites for media capture.
Microsoft notes that desktop programs may not appear as individual entries in the app list, so the desktop-app switch is important when auditing a traditional browser. Turning it off can affect every browser and other desktop software, so use it only when that broader result is intended.
Windows Hello may use a camera for sign-in even when ordinary app access is disabled. That system feature is distinct from a browser game and should not be interpreted as proof that the game has permission.
Understand the two permission layers
A successful camera or microphone capture request normally depends on three conditions:
- The game must request the capability through the browser.
- The browser must have a site-level permission allowing that request.
- The operating system, hardware, and driver must make the device available to the browser.
Changing only one layer can produce confusing results. An allowed browser entry cannot overcome a Windows block, a missing camera, or a driver problem. Conversely, a camera that works in another application does not prove that this game has permission. To guarantee that a particular game cannot use a camera or microphone, block the site first; to stop browser capture across the computer, add the operating-system restriction.

Permissions are also browser-specific. Blocking a site in Chrome does not automatically block the same domain in Firefox, Safari, or Edge. If the game is played in more than one browser, repeat the check in each one.
What blocking changes inside the game
A browser game may use a camera for motion input, face effects, augmented-reality visuals, or identity checks. It may use a microphone for voice commands or in-game chat. It may use location for regional content, nearby-player discovery, or location-aware features. Denying a permission can make that feature unavailable, and in some cases the site itself may not work correctly. The effect is game-specific, so treat the block as a privacy choice that can have a functional trade-off rather than assuming every game will fail completely.

A game may show an error, silently omit a feature, or continue normally if it never needed the denied capability. The permission decision does not tell you which behavior will occur.
If you later decide to restore access, return to the same site panel and change the permission to Allow, or clear the saved decision so the browser asks again. Reload the game after changing a permission; many pages evaluate permissions only when they initialize a feature.

| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The game still shows a camera or microphone prompt | The decision was made for a different domain or subdomain. | Read the exact address-bar domain and set the permission for that site. |
| The device works in another browser | Permissions are browser-specific. | Repeat the block in every browser used to play the game. |
| The camera or microphone indicator remains active | Another tab, application, or system feature may be using the device. | Close other tabs and applications, then inspect Windows privacy activity and the browser’s current-site permission. |
| The game stops working after the block | A required feature depends on the denied capability. | Keep the block, or restore permission only if you accept that feature’s access. |
| A setting changes back or cannot be edited | A school or workplace policy may manage the browser. | Contact the administrator; managed Chrome settings can override personal choices. |
| Location-based content still appears | The site may be estimating an approximate area from network information. | Keep the browser Location permission blocked and understand that this does not eliminate IP-based estimation. |
| The browser asks again after you thought it was blocked | You cleared or reset the saved decision instead of choosing an explicit denial. | Open the site panel again and select Block, Deny, or Never allow. |
Check the exact site after clearing permissions
Clearing a permission is not the same as blocking it permanently. Chrome’s reset option and Firefox’s address-bar X remove the saved decision, which causes a new prompt later. If your goal is a lasting denial, set the explicit blocked option after clearing.
Account for managed devices
On a school or work computer, an administrator can manage camera and microphone settings. A policy may hide controls, restore an allowed list, or prevent changes. Personal browser instructions cannot override that policy; the administrator must change it.
A practical privacy checklist
- Identify the exact game domain in the address bar.
- Block Camera, Microphone, and Location in that site’s browser permissions panel.
- Reload the game and confirm that the feature requiring access no longer works or prompts.
- If camera or microphone access remains possible, review Windows Privacy & security settings.
- Check other browsers, tabs, and applications if a hardware indicator stays active.
- Remember that precise-location blocking does not prevent every form of approximate location estimation.
- Record any exception you intentionally allow so you can remove it later.
Bottom line
For one browser game, the least disruptive solution is a per-site denial: Chrome’s Site settings, Firefox’s camera or microphone permission list, Safari for Mac’s Websites settings, or Edge’s site-permission panel. Add Windows camera and microphone restrictions when you want a device-wide block. These controls stop browser-mediated access without buying a cover, plug-in, or other accessory.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will blocking the game’s browser permission disable the whole game?
Not necessarily. It can disable a feature that needs the camera, microphone, or location, and Mozilla notes that some sites or features may stop working. Other games may continue with those features omitted.
Is clearing a permission the same as blocking it?
No. Clearing or resetting a decision makes the browser ask again. Choose Block, Deny, or Never allow when you want an explicit ongoing refusal.
Why can the camera still work after I block the game?
Check the exact domain, other browser tabs, and other applications. Then review both the browser’s site permission and Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Camera. A different browser may also have its own independent permission.
Does turning off location stop a website from knowing my area?
It stops Edge from supplying precise location through its location mechanism, but a site can still estimate an approximate area from information such as an IP address. A browser location block is not complete network anonymity.
Do Safari camera and microphone settings sync to my other Apple devices?
Apple says Safari’s privacy-sensitive camera and microphone website settings are not shared across Apple devices. Check the settings separately on each Mac. The instructions here are for Safari on Mac, not iPhone or iPad.
Can a school or employer override my choice?
Yes. Managed Chrome or another managed browser can impose camera and microphone policies, hide controls, or restore an allowed list. An administrator must change a policy that prevents your setting from taking effect.
The Bottom Line
Block the game’s own site permission first; add Windows device restrictions only when you need a broader camera or microphone shutdown. Location blocking limits precise browser sharing, but it cannot prevent every approximate network-based estimate.
