Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChrome can block pop-ups and sites that show intrusive or misleading ads, but its built-in controls do not remove every banner, video advertisement, sponsored placement, or ad inserted directly into a page. For the strongest practical reduction, enable Chrome’s native protections first, then install a reputable, maintained Manifest V3 content blocker. If new tabs, redirects, homepage changes, or unknown extensions keep returning, treat the problem as unwanted software rather than ordinary advertising.
What “all ads” means in Chrome
No browser setting can guarantee that every advertising format disappears from every website. Chrome can stop many disruptive behaviors, while a content-blocking extension can filter page elements using rules. Some promotions are delivered as ordinary page content, inserted by the site’s own server, or designed to look like editorial material. Ad-block detection can also change what a site displays when it notices filtering.
| Ad or behavior | Chrome’s built-in control | What usually provides broader coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Pop-up windows and automatically opened tabs | Chrome blocks them by default, with per-site exceptions. | A content blocker may add filtering, but the browser setting is the first control to check. |
| Sites classified as showing intrusive or misleading ads | The Intrusive ads setting can prevent those sites from displaying the affected ads. | A maintained filter can remove additional page elements. |
| Banners, in-page video ads, and many page-level ad slots | Not comprehensively blocked by Chrome alone. | A current MV3-compatible content blocker with suitable filter lists. |
| Sponsored articles, first-party promotions, or server-side content | Usually left in place because it is part of the page’s content. | Results vary by filter and site; some placements cannot be distinguished safely from normal content. |
| Notifications that advertise sites or products | Controlled through each site’s notification permission. | Remove permission and review extensions or software that granted it. |
Therefore, “block all ads” should mean the strongest practical reduction available in your Chrome installation, not a promise that every commercial message will vanish.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallStep 1: Turn on Chrome’s built-in ad and pop-up protections
Enable the Intrusive ads setting
- Open Chrome on your computer and select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Settings.
- Open Privacy and security → Site settings.
- Expand Additional content settings and select Intrusive ads.
- Use the setting that prevents sites from showing intrusive or misleading ads.
This control is deliberately narrower than a full page ad filter. It targets formats Chrome classifies as particularly disruptive or deceptive, so ordinary banners and sponsored placements may remain.
Keep pop-ups and redirects blocked
- From Site settings, select Pop-ups and redirects.
- Leave the default blocking behavior enabled. Google’s Chrome Help states: “By default, Google Chrome blocks pop-ups from automatically showing up on your screen.”
- If a trusted payment, sign-in, booking, or other workflow needs a pop-up, add that specific site under the allowed list rather than permitting pop-ups globally.
- When the workflow is finished, remove the exception if you no longer need it.
A site exception applies only to the site you add. Do not use a global allow setting to solve a problem on one website.
Remove advertising notifications
- In Site settings, open Notifications.
- Under the list of sites allowed to send notifications, remove any domain you do not recognize or no longer trust.
- For a legitimate site that sends useful alerts, change its permission to Block instead of deleting it if you want to keep the entry visible.
Notification ads are not the same as pop-ups. A site can have pop-ups blocked and still send promotional messages through a notification permission that was granted earlier.
#1 Best Overall
- VLAN Network Segregation: This router includes five preconfigured VLANs that isolate IoT devices, guest users, and work systems into separate, secure networks. Each LAN port and every WiFi SSID can be assigned to a VLAN, giving you complete control over how traffic flows inside your home.
- Dual VPN Client and Server Support: The router works as both a VPN client and a VPN server, supporting OpenVPN, IPsec, and WireGuard. You can route selected VLANs through a VPN while keeping others on your regular ISP connection, giving each device group the exact level of privacy it needs.
- Full WiFi 6 on Both Bands: With dual-band WiFi 6 support, the router delivers modern wireless performance across 2.4GHz b/g/n/ax and 5GHz a/n/ac/ax. It improves capacity, stability, and speed while remaining compatible with older devices, making it ideal for busy homes with many connections. Wi-Fi Mesh is available after firmware update.
- High-Performance Hardware Architecture: Powered by the IPQ6000 quad-core ARM processor at 1.2GHz, along with 128MB flash, 256MB RAM, and hardware NAT acceleration, the router handles multitasking, streaming, VPN traffic, and VLAN isolation smoothly without slowing your network.
- Flexible and Powerful Parental Controls: You can use trusted services like OpenDNS, CleanBrowsing, and Cloudflare for filtering, then add custom block lists, allow lists, and schedules. The router includes defenses against common bypass attempts, letting families create rules that match each user. Best of all, it's subscription free!
Step 2: Add a maintained MV3 content blocker
Chrome’s native settings do not normally remove banners, video ads, and other advertising embedded in page layouts. For those, use a content blocker from the Chrome Web Store. Search the store directly rather than installing an extension from a download page or an unsolicited pop-up.
Check an extension before installing it
- Manifest V3 support: Manifest V3 is Chrome’s current extension framework. Google’s Chromium team reported that over 85% of actively maintained extensions in the Chrome Web Store were running Manifest V3. Older advice based on an abandoned extension may no longer apply.
- Recent maintenance: Check the listing’s update date and version history. A blocker that has not been maintained may miss current ad-delivery methods or become incompatible with Chrome.
- Permissions: Read every requested permission. A page-filtering extension may need access to page content, but permissions unrelated to filtering deserve extra scrutiny.
- Publisher identity: Confirm the developer name, support information, privacy disclosures, and user feedback. Look for a consistent history rather than relying on a high install count alone.
- Site controls: Prefer an extension that can pause protection on one site or add a precise allow-list entry, so you do not have to disable it everywhere.
- Default allowances: Read whether the extension enables an “acceptable” or nonintrusive advertising list by default. That setting determines whether some ads remain visible.
Example: Adblock Plus and its default allowance
The Chrome Web Store listing for Adblock Plus says it blocks “pop-ups, video ads, and banners” and is compatible with the latest MV3 updates. The listing also says that nonintrusive Acceptable Ads are enabled by default. If your goal is stricter blocking, open the extension’s settings after installation and turn off the option that allows Acceptable Ads. The exact wording can change as the extension’s interface is updated, so use the setting’s description rather than assuming the default is strict blocking.
Do not install several full-page blockers at the same time unless you have a specific reason and understand their interaction. Overlapping filters can make troubleshooting harder and may cause a site to fail without improving coverage.
Install and verify the blocker
- Open the Chrome Web Store in Chrome.
- Find a maintained MV3-compatible content blocker and inspect its listing, permissions, publisher, and update date.
- Select Add to Chrome, review the permission prompt, and confirm only if the request matches the extension’s stated function.
- Open the extension’s toolbar menu or settings page and confirm that protection is enabled.
- Visit a site that previously displayed a banner or video ad and refresh the page.
- If the site becomes unusable, use the blocker’s pause or allow-list control for that site instead of switching off protection globally.
Why ads can remain after you install a blocker
The ad is first-party or server-side content
A filter can remove an element it can identify as advertising. A site’s own promotion, a sponsored article formatted like a normal story, or an ad assembled on the server may not expose a separable ad element. Those messages can remain even while ordinary third-party banners disappear.
Acceptable Ads or another allow-list is enabled
Many blockers use an allow-list for ads they classify as nonintrusive. Check the extension’s settings and disable that allowance if you want the strictest mode. Also inspect the individual site’s status: a per-site pause or allow-list entry overrides broader filtering on that domain.

The extension is not active on the page
Chrome can restrict an extension on particular sites, and some pages open in a context where the extension has not been granted access. Open the extension’s details in Chrome’s Extensions page and review its site-access setting. After changing it, reload the affected tab.
The website is detecting the blocker
Some sites replace an ad with a warning, blank area, subscription prompt, or alternate layout when filtering is detected. That is not evidence that Chrome’s pop-up protection failed. Decide whether to keep the blocker active, allow the site if you trust it, or leave the page.

Multiple extensions are conflicting
Privacy, script-control, and ad-blocking extensions can all modify the same requests. If a page behaves unpredictably, temporarily pause one extension at a time, identify the conflict, and keep the smallest set that meets your needs.
The visible message is not a web-page ad
Promotions can come from Windows notifications, an installed desktop application, or a browser extension rather than from the page itself. If the message appears when Chrome is closed or points to an unfamiliar application, use the unwanted-software checks below.

- 【Promoting a Greener Living Environment】While the harmful effects of WiFi routers may not be extremely high, they still emit microwave radiation. Numerous studies have linked this radiation to various illnesses and neurological problems. Often, we believe we are keeping our children safe without realizing the dangers of exposing them to electromagnetic toxins. This WiFi router cover offers protection against such risks.
When persistent pop-ups and redirects indicate unwanted software
Google Chrome Help identifies several warning signs: pop-up ads and new tabs that will not go away, a homepage or search engine changing without permission, recurring unwanted extensions or toolbars, and redirects to unfamiliar pages. These symptoms call for cleanup, not simply another filter list.
Remove extensions you do not recognize
- Open Chrome’s three-dot menu and choose Extensions → Manage extensions. You can also open the Extensions page from the browser’s settings.
- Record the name of anything unfamiliar before removing it, especially if the extension was installed recently.
- Select Remove for extensions you did not choose or no longer need.
- Restart Chrome and check whether the redirects or new tabs return.
If an extension reappears after removal, another program or management policy may be reinstalling it. Continue with the installed-app and security checks rather than repeatedly removing the same item.

Review startup, homepage, and search settings
- Open Settings → On startup and remove unfamiliar pages.
- Open Settings → Appearance and check the homepage address.
- Open Settings → Search engine and restore a search provider you recognize if it was changed without permission.
- Remove unknown search engines or shortcuts where Chrome provides that option.
Check site permissions
- Go to Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings.
- Review Notifications, Pop-ups and redirects, and other permissions with lists of allowed sites.
- Delete entries for domains you do not recognize. Keep exceptions only for workflows you intentionally use.
Run Chrome’s built-in safety checks
- Open Settings → Privacy and security.
- Run Safety Check and follow its recommendations for compromised passwords, harmful extensions, updates, or unsafe settings when those checks are offered.
- Install Chrome updates when prompted, then restart the browser.
Inspect recently installed Windows software
- Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps (the label can vary by Windows version).
- Sort by installation date and look for software installed at the same time the redirects began.
- Uninstall only programs you can identify as unwanted; do not remove drivers or system components solely because their names are unfamiliar.
- Run your established antivirus or endpoint security scan. Download any remediation software only from its official website.
Persistent behavior after these steps can require help from your organization’s administrator or a qualified technician, particularly when Chrome says it is managed or settings keep changing.
How to use strict blocking without breaking useful sites
Allow only the site that needs an exception
Payment windows, identity-provider sign-ins, file pickers, and some web games legitimately use pop-ups. Add a narrowly scoped exception for the exact domain and remove it when the task is complete. Do not approve a chain of unfamiliar domains simply because a page claims it needs them.
Pause filtering instead of uninstalling
When a page fails, use the blocker’s per-site pause or allow-list control, reload the page, and complete the task. Restore protection when you leave. This preserves filtering on every other site.
Keep a record of changes
If you change several permissions, extensions, and browser settings at once, you may not know which change fixed or caused a problem. Make one change, reload, and test before moving to the next. This is especially useful for video playback and sign-in pages that can depend on scripts from more than one domain.
Update Chrome and the blocker
Chrome’s extension platform and websites change over time. Keep Chrome current, review the blocker’s update history occasionally, and replace an abandoned extension rather than granting it broader permissions to compensate for missing maintenance.
Quick Recap
Native controls versus a content blocker
| Decision point | Chrome settings alone | Maintained MV3 content blocker |
|---|---|---|
| Pop-up windows | Strong basic protection enabled by default, with site exceptions. | May add filtering, but should not replace the browser’s setting. |
| Intrusive or misleading ad formats | Handled through the Intrusive ads control. | May catch additional page elements according to its filter lists. |
| Banners and in-page video ads | No promise of comprehensive removal. | Primary reason to add a content blocker. |
| Sponsored or first-party content | Usually remains. | Coverage depends on whether the content can be reliably identified. |
| Maintenance | Updated with Chrome. | Depends on the extension publisher and current MV3 compatibility. |
| Site breakage control | Manage exceptions through Chrome site settings. | Use the extension’s pause or allow-list controls for page-level filtering. |
| Default allowances | No Acceptable Ads list. | Some products enable nonintrusive or acceptable advertising by default; check and change the setting if needed. |
| Permissions and privacy | Built into the browser’s normal permission model. | Requires reviewing the extension’s requested access and publisher reputation. |
A practical setup checklist
- Set Intrusive ads to prevent intrusive or misleading ads.
- Leave Pop-ups and redirects blocked.
- Remove notification permissions for unfamiliar sites.
- Install no more than the necessary, actively maintained MV3 content blocker.
- Read its permissions and check whether an Acceptable Ads or similar allowance is enabled.
- Use per-site exceptions only for trusted workflows.
- Remove unknown extensions and inspect homepage, startup, and search settings if redirects persist.
- Run Chrome Safety Check and your normal antivirus or endpoint scan when unwanted behavior continues.
- Update Chrome and review extension maintenance periodically.
Bottom line
Chrome’s built-in controls are the correct first step for pop-ups and intrusive advertising, but they are not an all-ad filter. A reputable, maintained MV3 content blocker provides broader coverage for banners and video ads, while first-party promotions, sponsored content, and server-side placements may remain. If ads arrive with persistent redirects, new tabs, homepage changes, or extensions you did not install, investigate unwanted software and permissions instead of adding more blockers.
