A successful Break stuns the enemy, costs it its next turn, and leaves it more vulnerable to damage.
How to trigger Break
- Damage the enemy. Attacks fill the gold Break Bar beneath its health bar. Watch the bar as you fight.
- Look for the gold star. The star beside the bar signals that the enemy is ready to be Broken.
- Choose an eligible skill. Check for the gold star by a skill’s AP cost or for the words “Can Break” in its description. Select that skill to trigger Break.
- Use the opening. Once Broken, the enemy is stunned, loses its next turn, and takes more damage. Spend the opening on your strongest available attacks.
You do not have to wait for the star if a Break-capable skill is ready: its hit can fill the remaining bar and trigger Break. The guide confirms this option, but does not quantify the trade-off between using the skill early and waiting until the bar is full. How to tell which skills can Break
Check each skill’s in-game indicators rather than assuming that any attack will trigger Break. Look for the gold star beside its AP cost or the “Can Break” wording in the skill description. Ordinary damage builds the meter; the Break-capable skill is what triggers the effect.
What Break does
A successful Break stuns the enemy and removes its next turn, while increasing the damage it takes during the broken state. That makes the timing useful both defensively—by interrupting the enemy’s turn—and offensively, by focusing follow-up attacks into the vulnerability window.

What is not established
The cited guide does not give a complete list of Break-capable skills, explain exceptions for every enemy or boss, or specify patch details. It also provides no exact Break-damage values. Do not assume every enemy can always be Broken. Pictos can be mastered after four battle victories with one equipped, after which their buffs can be made available to all party members through Lumina points, according to Xbox Wire’s beginner guide; that is general progression advice, not a verified Break build.
