You can build a Mortal Kombat II cabinet from scratch, but the available cabinet plans describe the original full-size machine—not a desktop unit. Use them as a geometry and construction reference, then redesign and verify the dimensions for your intended tabletop scale before cutting. The plans specify 3/4-inch MDF for most parts and plywood for selected structural pieces, but they do not establish a complete bill of materials, budget, wiring guide, or confirmed button-hole pattern.
Choose your scale before you choose a plan
Classic Arcade Cabinets publishes contributor-provided measurements and downloadable drawings for a dedicated Mortal Kombat II cabinet. The page says the MK II cabinet is the same as the Killer Instinct 2 cabinet. It is a useful starting point for a full-size build, but it is not an official Midway factory blueprint. Its drawings should not be treated as a ready-to-cut desktop plan.
A tabletop cabinet needs its own design decisions. Scaling every full-size measurement by the same ratio may leave the screen difficult to view, controls awkward to reach, or the cabinet unstable. Before committing to a scale, check the monitor angle, player reach and spacing, base stability, and room for the display and internal components.
What the reference plans establish
Materials and framing
The plan page calls for 3/4-inch MDF for most components. It specifies 3/4-inch plywood for the base, front-panel extenders, cross braces, front panel, and back base. It also lists 1-by-1-inch pine for skids, supports, and blocking, along with a larger cross brace near the monitor glass. Treat these as the page’s construction notes, not a verified cut list for a redesigned desktop cabinet. Confirm material grade and actual thickness against the drawing version you use.

Drawings and printing
The page offers cabinet and control-panel CAD/CNC drawings and PDF plans intended to print at scale. The prints cover the side panels and other more difficult-to-cut panels. Before transferring a drawing to stock, verify file units, print scale, material thickness, and whether the parts fit your chosen display and controls.
The page gives its plans an “Estimate Cabinet Accuracy” of 93%. That is the site’s own estimate, not a measured engineering tolerance. A builder comment on the page reports adjustments around the control-panel recess and difficulty determining the monitor-side angle, so make templates and dry-fit parts before final assembly.

Verify the control panel and cabinet details
Do not drill button holes from the reference page alone. It says the control-panel placement and drilling pattern were contributed separately, and that the MK II layout may match MK III without the run button—but explicitly leaves that match unconfirmed. Check the layout against an original panel, reliable kit documentation, or a verified tracing before drilling.
There are other details to check against the version you intend to reproduce: the site warns that its SketchUp drawing has the wrong coin door, and its illustrated revision shows a flat front kick panel rather than the angled style. Decide whether original-style artwork and coin-door details matter to your build, then verify those features before cutting or finishing the cabinet.

Use the original kit manual carefully
A scanned 76-page document titled Mortal Kombat 2 Kit (16-44029-101, Oct 1993) is available at Arcade-Museum’s manual scan. It may be useful when checking historically accurate details, but dimensions, wiring details, and technical specifications are not established here. Consult the relevant pages directly rather than assuming the scan confirms a measurement or connection.
Plan the build around your actual hardware
The reference materials do not provide a complete desktop cut list or wiring guide. Work out the core fit questions before cutting panels:

- The world of POP! is getting bigger—and smaller—with Bitty POP! collectibles!
- Expand your Mortal Kombat collection with Bitty POP! Arcade Scorpion! Bitty POP! figure is packaged in a hard acrylic display case with a detachable bottom lid.
- The detachable bottom lid doubles as an acrylic base, to which the Bitty POP! figure is adhered.
- Remove Bitty POP! Scorpion from his case so he can take his place in the Bitty POP! Arcade Display! The Bitty POP! case can be stored inside the Bitty POP! Arcade Display, directly below POP! Scorpion. Vinyl figures are approximately 0.9 and 3.5 in (2.3 and 8.9 cm) tall.
- Warning: Choking Hazard. Collectibles are small. Not for children under the age of 3 years old.
- Display: choose the screen first, then design its opening, viewing angle, and support around its actual dimensions.
- Controls: select the controls and confirm button spacing and player reach from a verified layout or physical template.
- Structure: adapt the reference’s base, braces, supports, and blocking to the smaller cabinet without assuming a proportional scale-down is stable.
- Exterior details: decide whether the coin door, kick panel shape, and original-style artwork are priorities, and verify the drawings reflect those choices.
- Cutting method: check the plan units and scale whether you are cutting by hand or using CNC files.
Because the available material does not establish a complete bill of materials, total cost, build time, or wiring instructions, those details depend on your chosen components and design. Make a component-fit plan and test paper or cardboard templates before committing MDF or plywood.

Quick Recap
A practical build sequence
- Set the target dimensions. Decide that the project is desktop-sized, then define the footprint, height, screen size, and control-panel reach for the hardware you will use.
- Choose a reference drawing. Download the relevant plans from Classic Arcade Cabinets’ MK II page. Confirm units, print scale, and drawing revision before relying on measurements.
- Resolve uncertain details. Verify button positions, coin-door design, kick-panel shape, monitor-side angle, and the control-panel recess against suitable references or templates.
- Make and dry-fit templates. Test the side profile and hardware placement with templates before cutting final panels. Check viewing angle, reach, component clearance, and stability.
- Build the structure to suit the design. Use the reference’s MDF, plywood, and pine notes as a starting point, adapting supports and braces to the smaller cabinet and confirming fit as you assemble.
- Finish only after the fit is settled. Confirm the display and controls sit correctly and that the exterior details match your chosen design before applying artwork or final finishes.
