Build for what you do next: choose ships suited to Adventure, Trade, or Combat; use newly unlocked fleet slots; place combat ships with their roles and the formation bonuses in mind; and match mates and parts to each ship. Before sailing, check your water and food.
Choose ships for the activity you plan to do
Start with the fleet’s job rather than a tier list. LINE Games’ How to Use Ships guide distinguishes Adventure, Trade, and Combat specializations, while its ship reference lists early examples: the Grade 1 Barque for Adventure, Tallette for Trade, and Hansa Cog for Combat. These examples show different intended uses; they are not a ranking of the strongest ships.
For exploration, trade, or naval combat, favor ships whose specialization supports the activity you expect to spend time on. If you are assembling a combat fleet, consider attack type and enemy matchups as well as a ship’s general role.
Use the combat type cycle
Combat ships can focus on Charging (ram), Artillery (ranged), Assault (melee), or Support. LINE Games’ Combat Guide describes this advantage cycle:

Ships and mates can have advantageous traits, and a ship may be strong, equal, or weak against an opponent. Check the matchup indicator before committing to an attack rather than assuming that one attack type is always best.
Add ships as Company Level unlocks fleet capacity
Your Company Level determines how many ships you can assign to the fleet. Add ships as slots become available, but consider the trade-offs: each ship should serve a purpose, fit the mates you can assign, and be supportable with your supplies. The official ship guide gives a later progression reference of up to seven ships at Company Level 55; that is not an early-game target or a promise about your current available slots. See LINE Games’ Fleet Basics: The Company and How to Use Ships.

Place combat ships with the default formation bonuses in mind
The default formation is available by default. Its row effects, documented in LINE Games’ Fleet Basics: The Company, are:
| Line | Bonus | Placement consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Front | +5% artillery defense | Consider this bonus when placing ships you want to benefit from increased artillery defense. |
| Middle | +5% artillery accuracy | Consider ships whose artillery attacks you want to support. |
| Back | +5% melee attack | Consider ships whose melee attacks you want to support. |
These are specific bonuses, not proof that the default formation is optimal for every lineup. Compare the bonuses with your ships’ attack roles and the opponents you expect to face.

Assign mates to compatible cabins
Mates can affect an individual ship and the fleet through their skills, effects, and expertise. Multiple mates with the same skill on one ship can raise that skill’s level. Cabin fit matters too: an incompatible cabin assignment can reduce a mate’s expertise by up to 50%, according to LINE Games’ How to Use Ships guide.
When assigning a mate, check the ship and fleet information screens for cabin compatibility and for skills or effects that complement the ship’s intended role. There is no roster-independent named-mate recommendation established by the official guidance.

Choose parts to support the ship’s job
Ship parts change performance, so prioritize the attributes you need rather than following a universal upgrade order. LINE Games’ How to Use Ships guide describes these examples:
- Cannons: determine artillery type and increase artillery damage.
- Armor: affects defense and seaworthiness.
- Rams: affect ram attack, momentum, and ice breaking.
- Anchors: affect seaworthiness and momentum.
- Special parts: can affect attributes such as seaworthiness, load capacity, sails, and crew.
For example, artillery damage is relevant to a ship you use for ranged attacks; load capacity may matter more for a trade-focused vessel. The best part choice depends on the ship and the activity you want it to support.

Plan shipbuilding and upkeep before departure
Shipbuilding requires blueprints, keels, wood, gunports, and ducats. The official How to Use Ships guide lists the Shipyard Parts Shop, combat loot, adventure, tasks, events, and palace rewards among sources for materials. A ship’s performance is based on its base performance, parts, and mates, so a new hull is only one part of its build.
Water and food are consumed over time, and low supplies can lower combat morale. Check provisions before a voyage. You can assign or replace fleet ships only while anchored in a city, so make lineup changes before setting sail. These supply and fleet-management rules are covered in LINE Games’ Beginner Guide: Combat.
Make the choice that fits your current fleet
When two ships or arrangements seem viable, compare them against the same practical questions:
- Activity: Does the ship suit Adventure, Trade, or Combat?
- Combat role: If fighting, does it charge, use artillery, assault, or support?
- Matchup: Is its combat type strong, equal, or weak against the opponent?
- Mate fit: Can you assign compatible mates with useful skills, effects, and expertise?
- Parts fit: Do your parts improve attributes relevant to the ship’s job?
- Progression and upkeep: Is a fleet slot available, can you obtain the required materials, and can you maintain supplies?
LINE Games reported a September 10, 2026 content update on its official game page. That confirms the game continues to receive updates; it does not establish that a newly added mate or other addition is suitable for early-game fleets. Check the current client for changes before relying on an exact ranking or progression path.
