Build around a few compatible pet abilities, place those pets so their triggers happen in a useful order, and use shop turns to strengthen the interaction. Super Auto Pets teams are limited to five pets, so each slot should support the plan or provide a useful flexible role. The right choices depend on the pack you are playing; no lineup is established as universally strongest.
Start with the rules that shape your team
Each round has a shop phase followed by an automatic battle. During the shop phase, you can buy pets and food, rearrange your team, merge pets for experience, sell pets, or feed them. Your team can hold up to five pets. Your pets attack from right to left, so the order you choose affects who attacks first and which pets are exposed at the front of the fight. Tier access unfolds over time: the pet reference lists tier 1 as available on turn 1 and tier 6 on turn 11, with a new tier opening every other turn. Treat the first team you assemble as a starting point, not a commitment. As later tiers enter the shop, you may find a stronger piece for your core interaction or a reason to pivot.
Choose a trigger, then find pets that support it
Read each ability for three things: when it activates, what it affects, and whether another pet can benefit from the result. A useful synergy is more than two abilities that sound similar; one pet’s effect should enable, amplify, or take advantage of another pet’s effect.

Example: summons and summon support
A developer discussion offers a clear pattern: pair a pet that summons with a pet that strengthens summoned pets. The first ability creates the opportunity; the second improves what appears. This illustrates how to look for complementary effects, not a guaranteed winning formula. The developer’s discussion also makes clear that balancing is not governed by a rigid set of archetypes.
Keep the five-slot limit in view
Build a central interaction, then use remaining slots for pets that add stats, survivability, or another useful trigger. Avoid making every slot depend on one narrow condition unless your team can reliably create that condition; the game’s five-pet cap and trigger-based abilities make that a practical roster consideration, not a tested win-rate rule.

Position pets for the abilities you actually have
Because your pets attack from right to left, placement determines attack order and the sequence in which front-line pets meet the opposing team. Positioning should account for both combat and ability triggers. A pet that needs another pet to faint, or that affects a friend in a particular position, may need a different slot from a pet whose main job is to attack directly.
- Check the ability text for conditions such as attacking, fainting, or affecting a particular friend.
- Work out which pet needs to act or be affected first, then place the other pieces accordingly.
- Revisit the order after buying, selling, or merging a pet; the best arrangement can change as the team changes.
There is no one fixed order that works for every synergy. Use the exact ability wording and your chosen pack’s pets to decide who belongs at the front and who should act earlier.

Use shop turns to strengthen the plan
Compare a purchase against what your team needs next: food or a stat increase may improve an existing piece immediately, while a pet may complete or improve the planned interaction. Food can increase stats or grant a perk, and pets or toys may also create perks. Which options are available depends on the pack. The food reference outlines food effects.
For example, the Cat entry describes a food-focused interaction in Turtle Pack in which food’s stat effects can be multiplied. It is a specific pack example, not a rule to assume in every mode. Check the pack and current ability text before building around it. The Cat reference provides the Turtle Pack example.

Choose the pack before committing to a lineup
Pack choice changes which pets and perks can appear, so a synergy is only a plan if its pieces are available in the pool you selected. The game has static packs, custom packs, and a Weekly Pack that changes each week; the wiki describes the Weekly Pack as using a synergy-minded randomizer. The pack reference describes these formats. Since weekly contents change, check the current pack list in-game rather than relying on an old lineup.

Adjust as new tiers and shop options appear
Keep the plan flexible as the game progresses. Early pets can carry a useful role while you wait for later tiers, but a new shop option may improve the core interaction or make a different one more practical. Reassess whether each pet still contributes, whether your attack order still makes sense, and whether food or a replacement pet better serves the team on that turn.
