You can’t pre-order Mario Kart World now: it launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. In the US, you can buy the physical game through retailers or purchase the digital version through Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com. A Switch 2 bundle with a digital download was announced for late September 2026, but check current retailer listings for availability and price.
Can you still pre-order Mario Kart World?
No. Mario Kart World is already released, so Nintendo’s pre-order process for unreleased games does not apply. The current choice is to buy the game digitally or look for the physical edition at a retailer.
Where can you buy Mario Kart World for Switch 2?
Physical edition
Nintendo’s US product page lists a physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition and offers a “Find retailers” option. Use that page to locate sellers, then confirm the retailer’s current stock and price; Nintendo’s listing does not confirm a retailer’s live inventory. See Nintendo’s US product listing.
Digital edition
Search for Mario Kart World in Nintendo eShop on your console or on Nintendo.com and buy the released game. For digital purchases through Nintendo’s US Store, you need a Nintendo Account that has previously accessed eShop on a Switch 2 or Switch console. Nintendo’s digital purchase instructions.

Is Mario Kart World physical or digital?
Both formats are available: Nintendo lists a physical Switch 2 edition, and the game can also be purchased digitally. If you want a physical copy, choose the separately listed game edition and check retailer stock. The US Switch 2 bundle described below includes a digital download, not a cartridge.
Should you buy the game alone or get the Switch 2 bundle?
Nintendo of America announced a US Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle for late September 2026. Its stated suggested price was $549.99, and the bundle includes the console, a full digital download of the game, and a three-month (90-day) Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership. The announcement described $37.98 in savings versus the suggested retail prices of the included items; that is an announcement-based comparison, not a guarantee of a current deal. Choose the bundle if you also need the console and want the included digital game. If you already own a Switch 2, or specifically want a physical copy, compare the game-only edition instead.
Does the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle include a cartridge?
No cartridge is specified in Nintendo of America’s US announcement: it says the bundle includes a full digital download of Mario Kart World. The Japanese-language bundle announced for Japan is a separate offer, scheduled to launch November 12, 2026. Its listed price is 63,980 yen including tax, and buyers can choose a download code for Mario Kart World, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, or Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. How Nintendo pre-orders work for unreleased games
These steps are for eligible games that have not yet been released, not for buying Mario Kart World today. Nintendo does not offer every game for pre-order. For an eligible digital game, Nintendo’s general process is:
- Find the game in Nintendo eShop or on Nintendo.com.
- Select “Proceed to pre-order” and complete the prompts.
- Nintendo processes payment no sooner than seven days before release and pre-loads the game. A small update is required at release before you can play.
You can cancel a digital eShop pre-order until payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded, which can happen up to seven days before release. If payment fails, Nintendo cancels the pre-order. Nintendo uses the term “pre-purchase” for physical items bought through Nintendo Store before they are available. It charges immediately and ships one to three business days after release; cancellation requires contacting support. Those rules concern pre-release purchases, not the already released Mario Kart World.
