There is no single monthly price for running a 24/7 YouTube music stream in the cloud. Calculate the traffic from your stream bitrate first, then add the actual VM, storage, and outbound-transfer charges for your provider, region, and network route. At a steady bitrate, a 30-day nonstop stream uses about 324 decimal GB per Mbps: for example, 5 Mbps is about 1.62 TB and 8 Mbps is about 2.592 TB. Those are data estimates, not cloud bills.
1. Choose a bitrate for the stream
Use the encoder settings appropriate to the resolution, frame rate, and codec you plan to send. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps. These are distinct resolution/frame-rate combinations, not a ranking of quality. A static music visual may not need the same encoding choice as fast-moving video, but your stream still needs to be stable at its chosen bitrate. For a cloud VM, bitrate is also a throughput requirement: choose an instance whose sustained network capability can carry the stream, not merely one with a low hourly price. If you use a primary and backup stream, include both rates when sizing bandwidth.
2. Estimate 30-day outbound data
For a constant bitrate, estimate encoded stream data with this formula:

Decimal GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × streaming seconds ÷ 8,000
A 30-day month contains 2,592,000 seconds. Therefore, 1 Mbps streamed continuously for 30 days is approximately 324 decimal GB. Multiply that figure by your bitrate to estimate the stream’s data volume.

These examples assume 30 complete days at a steady bitrate. They exclude protocol overhead and do not predict an invoice. Cloud providers may bill using GiB rather than decimal GB, apply traffic thresholds, and price network transfer according to the VM’s source region and the destination route. An Indian channel does not automatically qualify for a local network rate; check the specific route and product.

3. Add the infrastructure charges
Price the complete architecture rather than treating the VM’s compute price as the monthly total. For a self-managed setup, identify the machine, disk, network route, and any optional services, then enter those assumptions in the provider’s current calculator.
- Compute: Select a VM type and region that can sustain the encoder workload and required outbound throughput. Use the provider’s current on-demand or commitment pricing consistently. Google Cloud publishes region- and VM-specific general-purpose pricing.
- Storage: Include boot or persistent disks if your design uses them. Add archive storage only if you plan to retain recordings in the cloud.
- Outbound transfer: Apply the right source region, destination, service, traffic tier, and volume. Google Cloud’s network pricing is tiered and route-dependent; verify the applicable Mumbai/India price for the exact product and traffic path.
- Optional architecture: Add separate costs for a backup VM or encoder, external IP, monitoring, managed relay, or other service only when your design includes it.
Google Cloud’s monthly cost estimation guidance explains how to use its pricing calculator for a hypothetical workload. The available figures do not establish a single exact monthly bill in INR: the result depends on the selected VM, region, disk, route, pricing tier, discounts, and optional components.
4. Check whether the design can stay live
A low-cost estimate is not useful if the connection or VM cannot sustain the stream. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and accounting for primary bitrate, backup bitrate, and that margin when sizing the connection. Its streaming tips also recommend testing, previewing in Live Control Room, testing encoder failover, checking archive files when applicable, and continuously monitoring audio and video.

For a cloud design, confirm the VM’s network-throughput capability along with its price. Treat headroom, redundancy, monitoring, and testing as operating requirements; some may also introduce costs if they require extra services or machines.
YouTube setup prerequisites
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Its encoder setup instructions advise configuring in advance, checking the preview, testing failover, and verifying that the event is reachable. These are prerequisites and operating checks, not cloud line items.
5. Compare self-managed hosting with a managed service
YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. Its directory listing establishes that use case, but does not state current pricing or affiliate availability. Do not assume a managed service is cheaper than a VM, or vice versa, without current like-for-like quotes.

Compare cloud providers on identical assumptions: bitrate, uptime, VM capability, disk, source region, traffic destination, billing tier, and discount treatment. Compare managed plans using current quotes and stated limits rather than an assumed equivalence.
