To stop Xbox Game Pass from renewing, sign in to the Microsoft account that bought it, open Services & subscriptions, select Manage beside Game Pass, and follow the cancellation or recurring-billing prompts through confirmation. If the page instead says Turn on recurring billing and shows an expiration date, renewal is already off; Microsoft says you will not be charged automatically after that date.
Cancel Game Pass through Microsoft
- Open Microsoft’s Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the Microsoft account used to purchase Game Pass.
- Find the Game Pass subscription and select Manage.
- Choose the option to end the subscription or turn off recurring billing, then complete the on-screen steps, including any confirmation.
- Return to the subscription entry and check its status. If it now offers Turn on recurring billing and displays an expiration date, recurring billing is off.
Use the account that owns the subscription. If Game Pass does not appear, first check that you are signed in to the purchasing Microsoft account.
Use the store that billed you
If you subscribed through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, Microsoft directs customers to the relevant store’s support for cancellation or refund requests. The cancellation route depends on the original billing provider: a Microsoft-billed subscription is managed from the Microsoft account, while an Apple- or Google-billed subscription is handled through that store.
Cancellation, access and refunds are different
Turning off recurring billing prevents the next automatic renewal; it does not, by itself, mean that the current term has been refunded or ended immediately. Check the expiration date shown in your account for the end of the active subscription period.

A refund is a separate request with separate eligibility rules. Microsoft’s subscription refund policy says the most recent recurring billing charge may be refundable if you cancel within 30 days after payment, subject to the policy’s terms. This is not a guaranteed refund, and the outcome depends on eligibility and the applicable policy.
If you cannot complete cancellation
Microsoft’s guidance notes that an outstanding payment can leave a subscription suspended and may prevent cancellation until the overdue amount is addressed. Check the account’s billing status and resolve any amount due before trying again. Microsoft’s current subscription payment and options page covers billing settings; an older Xbox support video also discusses cancellation, but dates from 2020 and may not match today’s interface.
