To cancel a streaming subscription, first find out which company bills you. Cancel through Netflix, HBO Max, or Disney+ only when that service is the billing provider; if Apple, Google Play, or a TV, mobile, or internet provider bills you, use that provider’s account controls instead. Deleting an app or signing out does not stop recurring charges.
Before you cancel: identify who bills the subscription
Open the service’s account or subscription page and look for billing details. If the billing company is unclear, check the charge on your bank or card statement and any Apple, Google Play, mobile, internet, or TV-provider accounts you use. The billing provider controls the cancellation route, so a missing cancel button on the streaming service usually means you need to cancel elsewhere.
- Cancel only the subscription associated with the account you intend to stop. If you have multiple accounts or email addresses, check each one for a separate subscription.
- After cancelling, confirm the subscription is no longer active or has a stated end date. Save any confirmation email and note that date.
- Check the billing provider’s timing rules. Some providers require cancellation before renewal, and the deadline is not universal.
How to cancel Netflix
- Sign in to Netflix and open Manage your membership.
- Select Cancel, then choose Finish Cancellation.
- Look for Netflix’s confirmation email and check the account page for the end date.
If you have time left in the billing period, Netflix says you can keep watching until it ends. If there is no cancel option in your account, use the payment partner instructions shown in the Membership section. A Netflix account that is on hold closes immediately when cancelled.
A remaining gift-card or promotional balance may continue to cover service after cancellation. If you are moving to a package that includes Netflix, Netflix says you can link the existing account to that package; once linked, billing to the payment method on file stops.

Pause Netflix instead
Eligible accounts may show an option to pause for one month, starting on the next billing date. You can continue streaming until that date; then charges stop and streaming and downloads become unavailable during the pause. Netflix says the current plan price is charged after the month and viewing resumes. Eligible accounts may be able to extend the pause one month at a time, up to three months total. Unpausing early triggers an immediate charge and updates the billing date.
Netflix says pausing is unavailable on the Basic plan and with some payment methods, including direct debit, gift cards, and some partner payments. Plan names and eligibility can change, so rely on the option displayed in your account.

How to cancel HBO Max
HBO Max’s cited help page is for Malaysia, and provider availability and instructions differ by country. First check the service’s subscription page or the app’s Subscription area to identify who bills you. Your statement or your internet, mobile, or TV provider may also identify the billing company.
- If HBO Max bills you directly, sign in to the service subscription page.
- Select Cancel Your Subscription and confirm.
- Note the expiration date shown. HBO Max says access continues until the end of the billing period.
If the service does not offer a cancel button, use the billing provider’s cancellation process. The cited help page lists Apple, Google Play, Samsung, and internet, mobile, or TV providers as possible third-party billing routes. Its exact steps and available partners depend on country. HBO Max states: “Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel your subscription.” See its cancellation help for its current instructions.

If HBO Max charges continue after cancellation
Check whether the subscription still appears active, whether another email address has a separate subscription, or whether cancellation happened close to renewal. HBO Max says some providers may require cancellation at least 24 hours before the next billing period, but timing varies. Verify the rule with the company that bills you rather than treating 24 hours as a universal deadline. See HBO Max’s guidance on unexpected subscription charges.

- In a computer or mobile browser, open Disney+ and go to Profile → Account.
- Open your subscription and select Cancel Subscription.
- Complete the prompts and check the account for the subscription end date.
For a directly billed subscription, Disney+ UK says access continues until the current billing period ends, or until the end of an agreed minimum term if that extends further. If another company bills you, cancel through that provider’s help center or support. Disney+ says plans and features can vary by country and billing partner; its US plan-management page also notes this variation.
Pause Disney+ instead
Disney+ UK says some monthly subscriptions billed directly by Disney+ can be paused from Account → subscription → Pause Subscription, where you choose a duration. The pause begins on the first day of the next billing period: access remains until then, then service access stops and charges pause until the pause ends. Promotions and minimum-term subscriptions may not qualify. The UK instructions do not establish that the option is available in every region or with third-party billing.

Cancel or pause: what to expect
Cancellation and pausing are not necessarily immediate. A cancellation typically stops renewal while leaving access active through the paid period; pause availability and timing depend on the service, plan, payment method, billing company, and country. Minimum terms, account holds, gift balances, or promotions can affect what happens next.
Before choosing, check the end date or pause terms shown by the billing provider. If you want to return later, a pause may preserve access to the account while temporarily stopping charges, but only where the account is eligible. If you want to stop future renewals without relying on pause rules, complete the cancellation and keep its confirmation.
