The Beach and Beach Farm shorelines are suitable spots. If you have Magic Bait, it lets you catch Eel without the usual season, weather, or time restrictions.
Where and when can you catch an Eel?
The standard Eel’s normal catch window requires all four conditions below at once:

- Location: Fish in the ocean, such as from The Beach or the Beach Farm shoreline.
- Season: Spring or Fall.
- Weather: Rain.
- Time: 4 PM to 2 AM.
Fish availability depends on location as well as season, time, and weather, and different spots can have different catch selections. See the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Fishing Strategy for how those factors shape fishing pools.
How to check your fishing setup
- Check the in-game season: it must be Spring or Fall for the normal catch.
- Check the weather: the normal Eel window requires rain.
- Check the clock: cast between 4 PM and 2 AM.
- Go to an ocean fishing spot, such as The Beach or the Beach Farm shoreline.
If any of those conditions is missing, the normal window is not met. The available references do not establish an exact Eel catch probability, a required cast distance, or a best tackle choice, so there is no documented guaranteed technique beyond meeting the conditions.

What if the season, weather, or time is wrong?
Magic Bait is the documented exception: it allows Eel catches regardless of the normal season, time, and weather requirements. It does not remove the need to fish in the ocean.
Why catch an Eel?
Eel is required for the Night Fishing Bundle in the Fish Tank. It also has recipe uses, including Fried Eel and Spicy Eel. The Stardew Valley Wiki’s Eel entry lists its other item details.

The wiki lists the Eel’s fishing difficulty as 70 and its behavior as Smooth. Its base sale price is 85g; fish quality and professions can change the listed sale value. These are in-game reference values, not real-world measurements.
