For a YouTube destination connected to Switchboard Live through its direct integration, edit the Stream Group’s Stream Details to update the shared title and description, or customize the YouTube destination to give it different wording. If the YouTube event is scheduled and connected through custom RTMP, edit its details in YouTube Live Control Room instead: Switchboard says its metadata does not push to custom RTMP destinations.
First, identify how YouTube is connected
The right place to edit depends on the connection type. Switchboard’s group and destination controls apply to eligible destinations connected through its supported integration. A scheduled YouTube event added to Switchboard as custom RTMP is different: its title and description must be changed in YouTube.
- Direct-integrated YouTube destination: use the Stream Group’s shared Stream Details, or customize the YouTube destination for YouTube-only copy. Switchboard’s metadata guide describes these controls.
- Scheduled event connected as custom RTMP: edit the event in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room. Switchboard says its title and description do not push to custom RTMP destinations, including scheduled YouTube events. See Switchboard’s scheduled-event guide.
Change the shared title and description for a Stream Group
Use this route when destinations in the group should share the same metadata. Switchboard uses the group’s main title and details for destinations that have not been customized.
- Open the relevant Stream Group in Switchboard.
- Select the pencil or edit control in the group header.
- Edit the group’s Stream Details, including the title and description.
- Select Save & Next to save.
The group’s main title appears in the Stream Group header. This change supplies the shared/default details to destinations in the group that do not have their own customized metadata.

Give the YouTube destination its own title and description
If YouTube needs different wording from the other destinations in the group, customize its details instead of changing the shared metadata.
- Open the Stream Group editor and select Customize beside the YouTube destination. Alternatively, select the blue information button beside that destination.
- If you opened the destination information route, go to Destination Settings and edit Stream Details.
- Save the edits. In the destination-settings route, the button is labeled Save Changes.
Switchboard shows the Customize control only when the destination belongs to a specific group and is not an RTMP destination. If the YouTube destination is custom RTMP, use YouTube’s controls instead.

Edit a scheduled YouTube event connected through custom RTMP
Switchboard’s scheduled-event workflow creates the event in YouTube Live Control Room and then adds it to Switchboard as a custom RTMP destination. Because Switchboard says its title and description do not push to custom RTMP destinations, change the event’s metadata in YouTube.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Open the scheduled event and select its Edit control.
- Update the title or description, then save the event details.
YouTube Help says metadata can be edited from the stream settings page or while scheduling a stream. Its instructions are at Manage live stream settings.

What you can edit while live
Switchboard says YouTube supports live title editing through its supported live-edit feature. This should not be treated as a guarantee for every destination or for custom RTMP: Switchboard’s documentation distinguishes supported live editing from RTMP behavior. The documented YouTube title limit is 100 characters. The cited documentation does not establish a description character limit, so check YouTube’s own editor rather than relying on an assumed number.
