Select the 3D region, choose a biome, optionally set a mask, and apply the fill. It changes the biome assignment—not the blocks or terrain shape—and you need to leave and re-enter the world to see biome-dependent visuals refresh.
Change a biome in an existing area with Fill Biomes
Microsoft’s Bedrock Editor Fill Biomes instructions describe this workflow:
- Open the world in Bedrock Editor. Open Fill Biomes from the tool rail or Action Bar.
- Select the area. Use Selection to mark the region. The selection is a 3D volume, so its entire vertical range is included.
- Choose a target biome. Select the biome you want from the biome dropdown.
- Set masks if needed. Masks can limit which existing biomes are replaced. You can use biome names or biome tags in allow and exclude lists; the two mask types can be used independently or together.
- Apply the change. Click Fill and confirm. The Editor tracks reassigned regions for review, and those assignments persist across sessions. Larger selections take longer to process.
- Refresh the view. Leave and re-enter the game to see biome-dependent visuals update.
The reviewed official instructions do not establish platform-by-platform access requirements for Bedrock Editor. Check Microsoft’s current Editor requirements for your device before following this workflow.
What changes—and what does not
Fill Biomes reassigns the biome without changing the selected area’s blocks or terrain shape. A forest-to-desert biome change, for example, does not automatically replace grass with sand or create desert features. The region may therefore look much as it did before, even though its biome assignment has changed.

Microsoft says to leave and re-enter the game before judging the visual result. Grass color, foliage, sky tint, and other biome-dependent visuals may then reflect the new biome.

These approaches serve different tasks: use Fill Biomes for an existing selection, /locate biome to find somewhere to visit, or biome JSON when authoring behavior-pack content. The cited documentation does not establish that changing a biome assignment retroactively regenerates terrain or natural features.

Does Bedrock have the /fillbiome command?
Do not use Java Edition’s /fillbiome <from> <to> <biome> syntax as a Bedrock solution. The Java Edition Snapshot 22w46a notes document that command for Java Edition and explain that biomes are not stored per block, so affected positions may not precisely match the input.
Microsoft’s Bedrock popular commands reference documents /locate biome and /fill, but not /fillbiome. A Minecraft Feedback request posted February 15, 2024 asks for the command in Bedrock; a user-submitted request is not evidence that the command is available.
