Set up a Java world with Minecart Improvements

In that world, enter
/gamerule minecartMaxSpeed 20in chat to set the maximum to 20 blocks per second. Adjust20to the cap you want. Mojang lists the rule’s default as 8 and says it can be set as high as 1000 blocks per second in the documented experiment. -
Give the cart a way to accelerate, such as powered rails or a downhill slope, then test the route. The gamerule sets a cap; it does not make the cart instantly travel at that speed.

Why your cart may not reach the configured speed
Air resistance and similar effects slow minecarts. Slopes or powered rails must add enough speed to overcome those effects before the cart can approach the cap. Mojang’s 1.21.2 notes explicitly caution that setting a maximum does not guarantee a cart will reach it. If it remains slower than expected, review the route’s powered-rail placement and slopes rather than assuming the gamerule failed.
What to consider before enabling the experiment
Minecart Improvements can affect existing rail and redstone builds. Mojang warns that piston bolts, delicate rail timings, and rail-snapping contraptions may break or behave differently. If a world depends on those designs, test the experiment in a copy before changing the main world.

Does this work in Bedrock Edition?
Current Bedrock support for minecartMaxSpeed is not established by the cited official documentation. The Java experiment and command above should not be treated as verified Bedrock instructions. The documented method applies specifically to Java Edition 1.21.2; check the release notes for the version you play before relying on it in a later release.
