What’s actually slowing this PC down?

You cannot change the country or region of an existing PlayStation Network account. Sony locks the account’s country to the region selected during registration. Changing your console settings, address, Store language, payment card, or VPN location will not convert the account.
If you have moved permanently, the practical solution is to keep your original account and create a separate PlayStation account registered to your actual new country of residence.

How to check your PlayStation account country
Before troubleshooting a card, voucher, or Store problem, confirm which country is attached to the account.
On the web
- Sign in to Account Management.
- Select Your Information.
- Select Edit beside Residential Address.
- Look at the country or region shown at the bottom of the address information.
In the PlayStation App
- Open the Play screen.
- Select the Settings icon.
- Scroll to Account Information.
- Select Edit under Residential Address.
These screens let you view the account’s existing region; they do not provide a supported country-change option. Editing the street address does not change the account’s country code.

What to do after moving to another country
If you now live in another country and need that country’s PlayStation Store, follow this approach:
- Keep the original account so you retain access to its purchases, trophies, friends, messages, wallet, and account history.
- Create a new adult account using your actual country of residence and accurate information.
- Add the new account to your PS5 or PS4.
- Use a payment method or PlayStation Store voucher issued for the new account’s country.
- Buy new-region games and add-ons through the new account.
This is a separate-account workaround, not a migration. Sony says access to purchased items is associated with the account used to complete the purchase, so do not assume that digital games, DLC, saves, subscriptions, or other entitlements will transfer to the new account.
Sony requires account information to be accurate and may restrict accounts created or used with false information. Do not invent a residence or billing identity simply to access another Store region.
Why your foreign payment card may not work
A card from your new country does not change the region of your existing account. It may also fail to link if its billing address is registered in a different country from the PlayStation Store region. Sony recommends using a payment method registered in the same region as the account, another supported payment method, or a matching-region wallet top-up code.
If the card and account are from the same country, manage payment methods here:

PlayStation vouchers must match the account region
A PlayStation Store voucher generally must match the country or region of the account where you redeem it. A voucher bought for one country will normally fail on an account registered to another country. The country information or flag printed on a physical voucher may identify its intended region.

What happens to purchases, wallet funds, and subscriptions?
Games and DLC
Existing purchases remain associated with the original purchasing account. Sign in to that account to access its library and transaction history. Sony does not provide a standard process for transferring those purchases to a different-region account.
Be especially careful with imported physical games. Sony warns that an add-on may not work with a disc if the DLC’s country or region does not match the region for which the disc was licensed. Exact behavior can depend on the title and publisher, so check the disc packaging or ask the retailer before buying DLC.

Wallet funds
Your original wallet is not converted into another country’s currency. Sony states that wallet funds are generally non-refundable and non-transferable, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Prepaid cards also generally need to match the account’s designated country.
Before abandoning the old account, check its wallet balance and consider using valid funds on that account. Do not close the account merely because you moved.
PlayStation Plus and other subscriptions
Do not assume a subscription can be moved to another account. The original account remains tied to its original region, and a new-country card may be rejected for recurring billing. Check the old account’s subscription status, renewal settings, and payment details before switching.
If you no longer want recurring charges, manage or cancel them in the account’s subscription settings. If you need a subscription on the new-region account, review the available options there instead of assuming unused benefits will transfer.
What about child and family accounts?
Creating a new regional account can affect family management. Review parental controls, purchase permissions, family relationships, saved data, and spending limits before recreating or replacing a child account.

Sony’s terms state that a child account associated with an adult account does not have a separate wallet; purchases made by associated child accounts use the adult account’s wallet. Do not bypass age or parental restrictions by entering false information.
Can a VPN or console setting change the PlayStation region?
No. A VPN may change the apparent location of your internet connection, but it does not change:
- The country stored on the PSN account
- The wallet currency
- Voucher compatibility
- Purchase licensing
- Billing-region requirements
Changing the PS5 or PS4 system language, time zone, console location, or PlayStation Store website language has the same limitation. These settings affect presentation or local device behavior, not the account’s registered country. A VPN is therefore not a supported or reliable solution for accessing another region’s Store.

Sony’s published support guidance does not provide a standard country-change or account-migration procedure. Support may still help diagnose a payment problem, account-registration error, or other account-specific issue, but do not expect a normal region unlock.

Common problems and fixes
“I changed my address, but the country stayed the same.”
That is expected. The address can be edited, but the account’s country is fixed after creation. Verify the region at the bottom of the residential-address page.
“My new-country card is declined.”
- Check whether the card’s billing country matches the account’s Store region.
- Confirm that the name and billing details exactly match the bank’s records.
- Consider whether repeated payment changes have triggered a temporary security block.
- Try a supported payment method or wallet code matching the account’s region.
A cross-country billing mismatch is a common cause of card-linking problems, but not every payment failure is caused by region.
“My voucher says it is invalid.”
Check the voucher’s intended country before trying again. Do not repeatedly guess regions or buy another code until you have confirmed that the voucher matches the account.

Check whether the disc and DLC were licensed for the same country or region. An imported disc may require DLC from the Store region associated with that disc’s license.
“I created a new account and my purchases are missing.”
This is usually an account-ownership issue rather than a download failure. Sign in to the account that originally bought the game or DLC and check its library and transaction history.
Checklist before switching accounts
- Verify the old account’s country and region.
- Check wallet funds before creating or abandoning an account.
- Review digital games, DLC, purchase history, and saved data.
- Check active PlayStation Plus and other subscriptions.
- Review recurring billing and cancel unwanted renewals.
- Check cloud-storage status and important saves.
- Review family relationships, parental controls, and spending permissions.
- Confirm two-factor authentication and account-recovery details.
- Check physical-disc region compatibility before buying DLC.
- Do not close the old account until you understand the consequences.
Bottom line
There is no supported way to change the country of an existing PlayStation account. Keep the original account for its purchases and history, then create a separate account registered accurately to your new country if you need that country’s Store, currency, payment methods, or vouchers.
