To change the language for the Steam game now called Counter-Strike 2, open Steam Library, right-click Counter-Strike 2, choose Properties, then select a language under Language. Steam may download language files before you can play.
Change Counter-Strike 2’s language in Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Counter-Strike 2 in your games list and choose Properties.
- Select Language in the Properties window.
- Choose the language you want from the dropdown. Let Steam download any required files, then launch the game.
Steam’s current store listing uses the name Counter-Strike 2 and identifies reviews from before September 27, 2023 as belonging to CS:GO, its legacy version. Use the Counter-Strike 2 entry in your Steam Library for this setting. Steam: Counter-Strike 2
Game language and Steam language are separate settings
The game’s Language setting controls that title; Steam’s client language has a separate control. Steam Support notes that some games have independent language settings, so changing Steam’s display language does not necessarily change the game.
- In Steam, open Steam > Settings. On macOS, the menu is Steam > Preferences.
- Choose Interface, select the Steam display language, confirm, and restart Steam.
- If you are troubleshooting a game language, also check the individual game’s Properties > Language setting.

Check which languages the game supports
The Counter-Strike 2 Steam store listing currently shows 29 languages with interface support. English is the only listed language marked for full audio; the other listed languages have interface support. If the language change does not take effect
- Wait for the download: Steam may need to download language files after you select a language.
- Check both settings: Confirm the desired language under the game’s Properties and, if needed, in Steam’s Settings > Interface. Steam says enabling a language can require selecting it in both places.
- Confirm availability: If the language is absent from the dropdown, check the game’s current Steam store language table; not every game supports every language.
Steam documents launch options as a general game configuration feature, but its guidance for changing a game’s language is the Properties language control.
