Stop the BeamMP server, open ServerConfig.toml from the server’s working directory, set MaxCars under [General] to an integer of 1 or higher, save the file, and restart the server. For BeamMP Server 3.2.0 and later, the same setting can be supplied through the BEAMMP_MAX_CARS environment variable instead.

What the MaxCars setting controls
MaxCars is BeamMP’s per-player vehicle limit. It governs how many cars one connected player may keep spawned, rather than the total number of vehicles for the whole server. The official Server Maintenance documentation describes it as “The maximum number of cars per player.”

The value must be an integer of 1 or greater. When a player attempts to spawn a vehicle after reaching the configured limit, BeamMP deletes each additional vehicle instantly. A value of 1 therefore permits one car per player; a value of 5 permits five cars per player. The setting does not use zero or negative values as supported limits.
MaxCars is independent of MaxPlayers. MaxPlayers controls how many players the server can accept; changing it does not increase or reduce the number of cars available to each player. If you want to change both capacity limits, edit their separate settings.

Where BeamMP stores the setting
The setting is in the server’s ServerConfig.toml file, inside the [General] section. The BeamMP setup guide places this file beside BeamMP-Server.exe in a typical installation. The manual adds an important qualification: the server’s working directory determines which configuration file is actually used.
That distinction matters when you launch the executable from a shortcut, service manager, container, or script. The file beside an executable may not be the file loaded at runtime if the process has a different working directory. If an edit appears to do nothing, identify the working directory used by the running server and inspect the ServerConfig.toml there.

Change MaxCars persistently in ServerConfig.toml
This is the normal method when you want the limit to survive every restart.
- Take the server offline. Stop the BeamMP server cleanly, or otherwise prevent players from connecting while the configuration is being edited. Do not change the file while the server is actively writing its configuration.
- Find the active configuration file. Open
ServerConfig.tomlin the server working directory. In a standard setup it is nearBeamMP-Server.exe; for a service or container, use the process working directory rather than assuming the executable’s folder is active. - Locate the General section. Search for the heading
[General]. TOML section headings use square brackets and must be written exactly as shown. - Set the integer value. Add or change the
MaxCarsentry beneath that heading. For example:
[General]
MaxCars = 5- Check the spelling and value. Use the exact key name
MaxCars, with the capitalMandC. Enter a whole number of at least1; do not use a decimal, zero, or a negative number. - Save the file. Preserve the TOML format and make sure the change is written to the file in the active working directory.
- Start or restart BeamMP. The server reads the persistent value when it starts. Restart the process after saving, then reconnect a test player and verify the resulting limit.
For a limit of two cars, the relevant line is MaxCars = 2. For ten cars, use MaxCars = 10. The accepted range is not a short list of predefined presets: BeamMP accepts any integer at least 1, so choose the number that matches your server’s rules.
Choosing a practical per-player limit
The setting is a gameplay and administration choice, not a separate server-capacity setting. A low value keeps each player’s vehicle count predictable; a higher value allows players to stage more vehicles at once. The configuration itself does not state a recommended number.

These examples illustrate the rule rather than prescribe a universal value. If you lower the number on an established server, test the result with a player account before announcing the change. The documentation specifies what happens when a player tries to spawn beyond the limit, but it does not describe a separate migration action for vehicles that were already present when a lower value was applied.

BeamMP Server version 3.2.0 and later supports an environment override named BEAMMP_MAX_CARS. Set that variable to the desired integer in the environment that launches the server. For example, a process environment would contain the equivalent of BEAMMP_MAX_CARS=5, with the exact syntax supplied by your operating system, service manager, container runtime, or hosting panel.
The BeamMP manual states that environment variables override values in ServerConfig.toml. Consequently, if the file says MaxCars = 2 but the running process receives BEAMMP_MAX_CARS=5, the environment value is the one BeamMP uses. Keep the two values aligned or remove the override when you want the TOML file to be authoritative.
This approach is useful when the server is deployed from a repeatable service definition or container configuration and you do not want to modify a file inside the runtime image. It also makes the effective value part of the process configuration, which can be easier to reproduce across deployments.
The environment method has a version requirement: it is available on BeamMP Server 3.2.0 and later. On an earlier server version, use the TOML setting. After changing an environment variable, restart the BeamMP process so the new process receives it; changing a parent shell after the server has already started does not retroactively change the running process.

Apply a temporary limit with a Lua plugin
A Lua server plugin can change a ServerConfig setting at runtime by calling MP.Set with the MP.Settings.MaxCars identifier. This is a temporary operational option for scripted administration or events, not a replacement for a persistent configuration policy.
Because the plugin method is runtime-based, document the plugin’s behavior and the circumstances in which it changes the value. Treat the TOML file or environment configuration as the baseline that should be restored or reapplied when the server restarts. The plugin approach is appropriate when a server owner intentionally wants a script to adjust the limit during a session; it is less appropriate when every restart must produce the same setting without relying on plugin execution.
The available documentation identifies the setting identifier and the MP.Set mechanism, but does not provide a complete plugin listing or a universal argument example. Follow the API format for the BeamMP server version and plugin framework you are using rather than copying an unverified snippet.
Compare the three ways to set the limit

When both a TOML value and an environment value exist, the environment variable takes precedence on versions that support it. A runtime plugin is a separate layer and should be treated as an intentional temporary change rather than an invisible second configuration source.
Verify that the new value is active
After restarting, connect with a test player and spawn vehicles one at a time. Stop at the configured number, then attempt one additional spawn. BeamMP’s documented behavior is that vehicles above the per-player maximum are deleted instantly. This test confirms that you edited the file or environment used by the running process and that the value was parsed as intended.

MaxCars = 1, the first vehicle should be within the allowance and the next attempted vehicle should be removed. - For
MaxCars = 5, the fifth vehicle should be within the allowance and a sixth attempt should be removed. - Test with a second player if you want to confirm the limit is calculated separately for each player rather than as one shared pool.
Do not use the number of connected players as a substitute for this test. A server can have a valid MaxPlayers setting while still enforcing a separate MaxCars value for every player.
Troubleshoot a MaxCars change that has no effect
The wrong ServerConfig.toml was edited
This is the most common location problem. The executable’s folder is only the usual location; the working directory controls the file BeamMP loads. Check how the server is launched and identify its working directory. Services and containers often specify that directory separately from the path to BeamMP-Server.exe.
The server was not restarted
Save the file, then stop and start the BeamMP server. A running process does not automatically reload a changed TOML value. If you changed an environment variable, restart the process that receives that environment as well.

Use MaxCars exactly, including capitalization, and place it under [General]. A similarly named setting does not control the per-player vehicle count. MaxPlayers is a different capacity setting.
The value is outside the supported range
Use an integer of 1 or greater. A decimal, zero, or negative number is not an accepted MaxCars limit according to the documented range. Correct the value, save the file, and restart.

An environment variable is overriding the file
On BeamMP Server 3.2.0 and later, inspect the launch environment for BEAMMP_MAX_CARS. Because environment variables override TOML values, an old variable can make a correct file edit appear ineffective. Change or remove the variable, then restart the server.
A plugin is changing the value at runtime
Review enabled Lua plugins for calls to MP.Set using MP.Settings.MaxCars. A plugin may intentionally apply a temporary value after startup. Record the plugin’s behavior and disable it temporarily when diagnosing the baseline TOML or environment configuration.

The documented rule concerns additional spawn attempts: vehicles a player tries to spawn above the limit are deleted instantly. If you changed the value while vehicles were already present, perform a clean restart and repeat the test with newly spawned vehicles so the result is attributable to the new setting.
Recommended change procedure for managed servers
For a small private server, a direct TOML edit is usually the clearest approach. For a service or container, decide which configuration layer is intended to own the value before editing anything.
