Change the serverName value in the ACC dedicated server’s settings.json file, save that file as UTF-16LE, and then restart the server as a practical precaution. Do not edit configuration.json: that file contains network settings, not the public server name.

Where the ACC server name is stored
Assetto Corsa Competizione reads the displayed dedicated-server name from a key named serverName inside settings.json. The file is in the server configuration folder created or selected for your ACC dedicated-server installation. The exact folder depends on how you installed or rented the server, so use the configuration directory associated with the instance you actually run.

configuration.json is a separate file for network-related settings. Changing a name-like value there will not rename the server. If you have several ACC instances, edit the settings.json belonging to the instance whose name you want to change.
What you need before editing
- File access to the ACC server configuration folder, either directly on the machine or through your hosting provider.
- An editor that can save the file specifically as UTF-16LE. The ACC Server Admin Handbook describes JSON configuration in UTF-16LE format. A hosting guide also warns that edits saved by a standard UTF-8 editor may be ignored.
- A backup copy of the original
settings.json, so you can restore it if the server stops loading the configuration. - The intended new name, written as a JSON string. Keep the surrounding quotation marks and do not alter unrelated settings.
There is no hardware, accessory or software purchase required to rename a server. The task is a configuration-file edit.

Rename a self-run ACC dedicated server

Identify the active configuration folder
Open the folder used by the ACC dedicated-server process you launch. If you maintain more than one server, confirm the instance by checking the other settings in that folder or by reviewing the launch configuration used for that instance. Editing a spare or inactive copy will not change the running server.

Stop accidental overwrites and make a backup
Copy
settings.jsonto a safe location before changing it. If the server is currently running and your management setup rewrites configuration files while it is active, stop it first. Open
settings.jsonUse an editor that displays and saves UTF-16LE. Do not open and resave the file in an editor that silently converts it to ordinary UTF-8.

"serverName": "Friday GT3 Practice"If the new name contains a quotation mark, JSON requires it to be escaped. The safest approach is to choose a name that does not require escaping. Do not add comments; standard JSON does not permit them.

Save as UTF-16LE
Use the editor’s explicit encoding option and select UTF-16LE when saving. A file that looks correct on screen but is saved in another encoding may not be read as intended by the ACC server. If your editor offers several UTF-16 choices, select little-endian rather than UTF-16BE.

Check the JSON before launching
Confirm that the document remains valid JSON: every opening brace and quote has a matching closing character, commas separate adjacent properties, and the new name is inside quotes. Do not run an automated formatter unless you know it preserves UTF-16LE, because a formatter can rewrite the encoding.

Start or restart the server
Launch the dedicated server again after saving. A restart is a practical precaution that makes the process reread the file, but the available handbook and hosting material do not confirm that a restart is strictly required for a name-only change.

Verify the result
Look for the new name in the server list or in the connection information shown by your client. If the old name remains, work through the troubleshooting section rather than editing
configuration.json.
Using a hosting control panel
Some rented ACC servers do not expose the raw configuration directory. Instead, the provider may offer a Server Name field in its control panel. This route is appropriate when you have no file-system access.

- Open the control panel for the correct ACC instance.
- Look in the server settings or general-configuration area for a field labelled Server Name, Name or similar.
- Enter the new value and use the panel’s own save or apply control.
- Follow the panel’s stated procedure for restarting or redeploying the server, if it provides one.
- Reconnect or refresh the server list to check the displayed name.
Panel labels and application behavior are host-specific, and no particular provider’s current workflow is established here. If the panel has no name field, ask the host whether it exposes serverName or request temporary file access. Do not assume that uploading a UTF-8 replacement from a browser will preserve the required encoding.

Why UTF-16LE matters
The ACC Server Admin Handbook identifies UTF-16LE as the configuration format. This is not the same as a file merely containing valid JSON text. An editor can preserve the visible characters while changing the underlying encoding when it saves.

The practical consequence is that an apparently correct edit can fail to take effect if the file is silently converted to UTF-8. The warning about UTF-8 files comes from a hosting guide rather than a detailed compatibility test, so treat it as an implementation warning; the handbook’s UTF-16LE requirement is the authoritative configuration rule in the material available for this procedure.
After saving, reopen the file in an editor that reports its encoding. If it reports UTF-8, resave it as UTF-16LE before starting the server. Keep the backup untouched so you can recover the previous working file.
Troubleshooting a name that does not change

Do not solve a name problem by changing ports, query settings or other network values. Those changes address connectivity and can introduce a separate outage without affecting the displayed name.

Version and documentation caveat
The procedure is supported by ACC Server Admin Handbook versions 1.6.0 and 1.9.3 plus hosting guidance. No source dated 2026 confirms whether a newer ACC build has changed the key name, file location or encoding behavior. If your installed server behaves differently, check the current ACC Server Admin Handbook from the developer before changing additional files. The handbook material also does not establish that restarting is technically mandatory; restarting remains the safest practical way to ensure the configuration is reread.
