Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you have an unused Activision username-change token, you can change your Call of Duty name now; you do not need to wait for the next six-month token. If you have no token, Activision’s published instructions do not offer a general bypass. The token changes your Activision ID, also called your display name, and you can check the in-game or account-website workflow to see whether a token is available.
First, check whether you already have a name-change token
Activision says a new username-change token arrives every six months and an account can hold up to two. That means a player who changed their name recently may still have an unused token. Activision’s public support instructions do not show an individual account’s token balance, so start the change workflow to find out whether a token is available. If one is available, you can proceed without waiting for the next one. Activision’s Black Ops 6 account instructions describe the token policy and both change routes.
Change your name in Call of Duty
In the game client
- From the home screen, open Options.
- Go to the Account tab and select Activision Account.
- Choose Change Display Name.
- Enter the name you want and confirm.
A username-change token is required. Activision’s documented steps are for Black Ops 6; labels may differ in other Call of Duty titles or game versions.
On the Activision website
- Sign in to your Activision account and open Basic Info.
- Select Edit beside your Activision ID.
- Request the one-time verification code and enter the code sent to your account email.
- Edit the Activision ID and save the change.
- Enter your account password and submit.
This online process also requires a token. Activision’s Black Ops 6 instructions specify email verification for the change.

What if you have no unused token?
Under Activision’s published policy, you must wait until another token becomes available if your account has none. Its public instructions do not describe a general appeal process or guarantee an extra token for a requested name change. You can contact Activision Support about an account-specific problem, but support says it may be unable to change account details for privacy and security reasons; do not assume it can grant an exception.
If the account email is inaccessible
The online name-change process uses an email verification code to validate account ownership. If you cannot access the email on the account, contact Activision Support to ask about recovery. The outcome depends on the account, and Activision does not promise a particular recovery result in its public account-management guidance.

Why common “workarounds” are not reliable
- Creating another account: Activision’s documented name-change process is token-based; creating an account is not presented as a way to change the ID on your existing account.
- Unlinking or relinking platform accounts: This is not an official name-change shortcut and can affect progression when platform accounts are linked to another Activision account.
- Buying a game or paying a third party: Activision’s instructions describe an account setting and token cadence, not a purchase that accelerates a name change. No unofficial paid service is established as a legitimate way around the policy.
When Activision changes a name
Activision’s agreement allows it to change or remove a name that violates its rules. That moderation authority is not a user-controlled method for obtaining an immediate preferred name, and it does not guarantee a replacement name of your choice.
