Check the current NFL or team injury report first, read practice participation separately from the game-status designation, then refresh official updates and the team’s inactive list close to kickoff. The latest official information is more useful than an older alert or a fantasy app tile that may not have updated yet.
Check the current week’s official report

Open the NFL injury report for the current season and week, or the player’s club report. Find the correct team and matchup, then confirm the player’s name. NFL.com’s weekly report groups injury, practice-status, and game-status information together.

Check that the report is current. The NFL or team report is the primary source; use a news alert or general injury tracker as a pointer, not as a substitute for the latest official filing.
Read practice participation and game status separately
Practice participation describes what the player did during practice. The NFL report categories are Did Not Participate, Limited Participation, and Full Participation. They are not game-day rulings; practice participation and the Game Status Report are distinct fields.

The NFL Injury Report Policy defines the game designations this way: Questionable means it is uncertain whether the player will play; Doubtful means it is unlikely the player will participate; and Out means the player will not play. These are qualitative definitions, not a probability forecast. In particular, do not interpret Questionable as a guaranteed 50-50 chance.
If the game-status field is blank on an early-week report, wait for the applicable Game Status Report. A blank is not confirmation that the player is cleared.

Use the deadline for that game, then check again
Reporting deadlines vary with the day of the game. The NFL’s 2026–27 calendar sets applicable practice-report and game-status deadlines, with a 4:00 p.m. New York time deadline for the Game Status Report (or as soon as possible after practice). For a Sunday game, the calendar lists Wednesday through Friday practice reports and a Friday game-status deadline. Check the current calendar for games on other days rather than applying the Sunday schedule to every matchup.
A first Game Status Report may not be the last update: the calendar requires a change in a player’s condition after that report to be reported. Refresh the club or league report near lineup lock, then check the official inactive list close to kickoff. NFL game-day procedures include each club’s inactive list in its pregame administration report; a listed inactive player will not take part in that game. See the NFL game-day procedures.

Make the fantasy decision around your league’s lock
If the player is still uncertain when your lineup must be submitted, compare the risk of a late inactive with the alternatives you can actually use. Your league’s lineup deadline, bench options, waiver availability, and position flexibility all affect the decision. A manager with a viable later-starting substitute may be able to wait; a manager whose only replacement plays earlier may need to decide sooner.

Do not infer a diagnosis, recovery timeline, playing-time expectation, or fantasy score from a practice category.

Do not assume a fantasy platform’s player label changes at the same time as official team news. Verify a consequential status against the club or NFL report.
