Start with UK Athletics
UK Athletics is the team source for published men’s basketball news and media updates. Check its men’s basketball page for current team statements, news, and coach press-conference or video updates. These channels do not promise an injury update for every game, practice, or nonconference matchup, so silence is not confirmation that every player is available.
For SEC games, check the SEC report
When Kentucky plays an SEC conference game, use the SEC men’s basketball availability report as the conference reporting source. Check the listing for the relevant game, note when it was published or updated, and revisit it near tipoff: a player’s designation can change between updates.
How to read a status or game-time decision
Read the label as a snapshot of the player’s status at the time of that report, not as a guarantee about what will happen at tipoff. In a Jan. 2, 2026 report, updated Jan. 3, the Lexington Herald-Leader described an SEC player’s designation changing from probable to game-time decision. That is a season-specific news account, not a rule defining every SEC label or a current update about a Kentucky player. A game-time decision signals uncertainty at that update; by itself, it does not establish that the player is out.

- Use the source that matches the competition: the SEC report for conference games, and current UK Athletics statements for team news.
- If a report is preliminary, look for a later update rather than treating the earlier label as final.
- Attribute other updates to their publisher and time; do not treat an unverified social post as an official status.
How SEC reporting timing was described for 2025–26
A Jan. 2, 2026 Lexington Herald-Leader account described the 2025–26 SEC schedule as requiring an initial availability report by 8 p.m. ET on the eve of a conference game and a final report no later than 90 minutes before tip. Those are deadlines reported for that season, not verified deadlines for every future season. For a particular upcoming game, consult the live SEC listing; the available information does not establish the SEC’s 2026–27 deadline policy.

The NCAA used a distinct pilot for the 2026 Division I men’s and women’s basketball championships. Its March 4, 2026 announcement said initial reports were due by 9 p.m. local venue time the night before a game, with updates due two hours before tip. The NCAA specified “available (more than a 75% chance to play), questionable (up to a 75% chance to play) or out (will not play)” for that championship pilot. These labels and deadlines apply to the NCAA’s 2026 championship process; they are not a general definition or schedule for SEC games.

In its Oct. 30, 2025 announcement of the pilot, the NCAA said, “Student-athletes will be assumed to be available unless designated as questionable or out.” That presumption belongs to the NCAA championship reporting program described in the announcement. Do not apply it to Kentucky’s ordinary SEC or nonconference games.
