To find out whether an NFL player is expected to play, check the official NFL injury report for the correct week and matchup, then look for the team’s inactive announcement near kickoff. Practice participation is not the same as game status, and a blank game-status field alone does not confirm that a player is active.
Where to find the official NFL injury report
Open the NFL injury report and select the relevant week, team or matchup. Confirm that you have the right player and game: the page organizes players by team and matchup and shows injury, practice-status and game-status information, along with game dates and kickoff times.
The report is live-season information. The page was displaying Week 4 of the 2026 season on October 4, 2026, but player statuses and schedules can change. Check the current week and revisit the report on game day rather than relying on an old screenshot or search result.
How to read practice participation and game status
The practice-status field describes what happened in practice; the game-status field addresses expected availability for the game. Read them separately. The NFL’s policy explanation says a player certain to play may not appear on the Game Status Report even if listed on the club’s practice report earlier in the week.
#1 Best Overall
| Report field or label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Did Not Participate | The player did not participate in that practice. |
| Limited Participation | The player had limited participation in that practice. |
| Full Participation | The player fully participated in that practice; this does not by itself confirm the player will be active for the game. |
| Questionable | It is uncertain whether the player will play. This is not a prediction that the player will definitely miss the game. |
| Doubtful | The player is unlikely to participate. |
| Out | The player will not play. |
The NFL policy states that if there is any question about a player’s availability, the player should be listed as Questionable. The labels describe availability, not a guarantee about what will happen. A player with no game-status label should not be treated as confirmed active on that basis alone.
When teams file reports and announce inactives
Filing deadlines depend on the game day. The NFL’s 2026–27 important-dates calendar gives a general deadline of 4 p.m. New York time, or as soon as possible after practice, and requires teams to report a change in a player’s condition after the Game Status Report is filed. Use the calendar’s row for the game in question; do not apply the Sunday schedule to Thursday, Saturday, Monday or other games. For Sunday games, the calendar lists practice reports Wednesday through Friday and the Game Status Report on Friday.

For a final pregame check, look for the team’s inactive announcement close to kickoff. NFL Support says teams designate inactives about 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff. That is an approximate timing guide, not a replacement for checking the actual team announcement. See NFL Support’s inactive guidance.
A reliable check for “Is this player playing today?”
- Choose the correct game. On the official report, confirm the week, team, matchup and kickoff time.
- Read practice notes as practice notes. Did Not Participate, Limited Participation and Full Participation describe practice participation, not the final game decision.
- Read any game-status label literally. Out means the player will not play; Doubtful means unlikely to participate; Questionable means uncertain.
- Check for updates on game day. Reporting schedules vary by game day, and teams must report a changed condition after filing the status report.
- Verify the inactive list near kickoff. Check the team’s announcement around the approximate 90-minute window. Do not treat a blank game-status field or full practice as confirmation that the player is active.
Using weekly injury roundups
A weekly roundup can help you scan several games, but use it as an index rather than the final word. For example, the NFL’s Week 1, 2026 injury roundup collects player statuses across games. Verify the relevant player against the official report, then check for a late team update and the inactive announcement.
