Where to find the official NFL injury report
Open the NFL player injury report and select the relevant week. The report lists each player’s position, injury, practice status and game status. Use the week and matchup to make sure you are looking at the correct entry; a report from an earlier week is not a current availability update.
The NFL’s 2026–27 important-dates calendar sets the regular-season Game Status Report deadline at 4:00 p.m. New York time, or as soon as possible after practice. The deadline depends on game day:

These are 2026 regular-season deadlines, not a universal deadline for every season or postseason schedule. NFL Operations says a team must report a change in a player’s condition after the initial Game Status Report, so return to the report if news changes.

How to read practice status and game status
The report has two separate signals. Practice participation describes how much a player practiced; Game Status describes the team’s anticipated availability for the game. One is not a substitute for the other.

| Questionable | It is uncertain whether the player will play. | It is not a probability, promise or fantasy projection. |
| Doubtful | The player is unlikely to participate. | It is not the same designation as Out. |
| Out | The player will not play. | Do not treat the player as available for that game. |
The NFL’s explanation of the approved policy revisions defines Questionable, Doubtful and Out, and notes that Probable was eliminated as a game-status category. These policy definitions appear in the NFL’s 2016 explanation and its 2017 policy document; they are definitions, not a prediction of an individual player’s chance of playing or fantasy output.

A practical check from early week to kickoff
- Early in the week: Find the player on the report for the correct week and game. Note the injury and practice participation, but do not turn a single practice entry into a final availability call.
- When the Game Status Report is due: Read the separate game-status label. Treat Questionable as uncertainty, Doubtful as unlikely to play and Out as unavailable.
- If the situation changes: Revisit the official report for an update. The 2026 NFL Operations calendar says teams must report a changed condition after the initial filing.
- Close to kickoff: Check the team’s inactive announcement. NFL Support says teams designate inactives about 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff; an inactive player is unavailable for that game.
- Before moving a player: Check your fantasy league’s lineup lock. The NFL’s reporting schedule and the inactive announcement do not set your fantasy platform’s deadline.
What fantasy alerts and auto-swap can—and cannot—do
Alerts can save you from repeatedly refreshing a report, but they do not replace checking the source of the status or knowing when your roster locks. NFL Fantasy describes an optional Auto-Swap setting that can replace an injured starter projected to score zero with a bench player from the manager’s ranked backup list. Before relying on any automated lineup feature, confirm which starters and backups are eligible, how the tool identifies an injured player, and whether it can act before your league’s lock time. The official sources cited here do not establish a current side-by-side feature or price comparison among fantasy services, so choose based on the rules and alerts your own league supports.
