In the 2026/27 league phase, teams level on points in the same group are ordered first by their results against one another—not by overall goal difference. The rules below are for the 2026/27 edition; the live table changes as matches are played.
Where to find official results and standings
Start at UEFA’s official Nations League competition page and select its results or standings view. Confirm that the page identifies the 2026/27 competition before applying the rules in this guide: formats and ranking rules can be edition-specific. The current table is live, so use UEFA’s displayed results and standings rather than relying on an undated screenshot or an older table.
UEFA’s 2026/27 regulations establish how standings are calculated, but the specific live results-table URL is not verified here. The regulations are available in UEFA’s 2026/27 Nations League regulations.
How points determine a group table
During the league phase, a team receives three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. Teams are initially ordered by total points; if two or more finish level, UEFA applies the Article 15 criteria in sequence.

How UEFA breaks a tie within a group
For teams level on points in the same group, UEFA’s 2026/27 Article 15 tiebreakers are applied in this order. The first three criteria use only matches between the teams involved in the tie.
- Points in matches between the tied teams: the team with more points in those head-to-head matches ranks higher.
- Goal difference in those matches: if the teams remain level, compare goals scored minus goals conceded in the head-to-head matches.
- Goals scored in those matches: the team with more head-to-head goals ranks higher.
- Reapply the first three criteria to any remaining tied teams: if the earlier steps separate some teams but leave a subset level, compare only the matches among the teams still tied, using head-to-head points, goal difference and goals scored. If this does not resolve the order, continue below.
- Overall group goal difference: compare goal difference across all group matches.
- Overall group goals scored: compare goals scored across all group matches.
- Overall group away goals scored: compare away goals across all group matches.
- Overall group wins: compare wins across all group matches.
- Overall group away wins: compare away wins across all group matches.
- Disciplinary points: the lower total across all group matches ranks higher. A red card is three points, a yellow card is one point, and an expulsion for two yellow cards in one match is three points.
- Position on the access list: if teams remain tied, the higher position on the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League access list ranks higher.
These are ordered criteria: do not jump to overall goal difference or goals scored before completing the head-to-head steps. UEFA sets out the sequence in Article 15, Equality of points – league phase.

How to compare teams from different groups
The group tiebreakers above decide order inside a group. They are not the method for comparing teams from different groups within a league. UEFA establishes individual league rankings using a separate sequence that considers points, goal difference, goals scored, away goals, wins, away wins, disciplinary points and access-list position.
For leagues with groups of different sizes, UEFA excludes matches against fourth-placed teams when comparing group winners, runners-up and third-placed teams. When comparing fourth-placed teams, all their group results count. This adjustment matters because teams in groups of different sizes may otherwise have played a different number of matches. The procedure is specified in Article 19, Individual league, interim overall and final overall rankings.

Group standings, league rankings and overall rankings are different
A group table shows positions within one group. UEFA also establishes an individual ranking within each league, an interim overall ranking after the league phase, and a final overall ranking that reflects the League A knockout stage and play-offs under the regulations. A group position should not be described as the overall competition ranking.
The 2026/27 competition has a league phase in Leagues A, B, C and D, followed by a League A knockout stage and promotion/relegation play-offs. Leagues A, B and C each have four groups of four teams; League D has two groups of three or four teams. UEFA describes the stages in Article 12, Competition stages.
