Start with the official NFL injury report, select the current week and matchup, and read the player’s Game Status separately from Practice Status. For the final availability check, look for the team’s inactive list close to kickoff—weekly designations such as Questionable are not the same as the game-day inactive announcement.
Check the official NFL injury report
- Open the NFL injury report.
- Select the current week and the matchup you care about.
- Find the player’s row and check the injury, Practice Status and Game Status fields. Use the current row rather than a search snippet or an older article.
The report is time-sensitive and can change as clubs file updates. A player’s status for a future game cannot be inferred from an earlier report.
What the game-status designations mean
The NFL’s published definitions are: “Questionable means it is uncertain as to whether the player will play in the game; Doubtful means it is unlikely the player will participate; and Out means the player will not play.” See the league’s injury-report policy announcement for those definitions. The revised categories described there do not include Probable.
Practice status is not game status
Did Not Participate, Limited Participation and Full Participation describe practice participation. They are not, by themselves, promises that a player will or will not be available for the game. The NFL distinguishes practice reporting from game-status reporting in its policy announcement.

If a player has practice information but the Game Status field is blank, do not convert that blank into Questionable, Doubtful or Out. The report maintains separate fields, and a blank game designation is not one of those labels.
Check the inactive list near kickoff
Teams designate players inactive about 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff, according to NFL Support. NFL Football Operations also describes an officials’ meeting 90 minutes before kickoff at which club representatives deliver the inactive list in its game and stadium preparation guidance.

For a last-minute decision, refresh the current report and check the team’s latest announcement close to kickoff, then confirm the inactive list when it is available. The cited league material gives an approximate 90-minute window; it does not establish a guaranteed exact posting second or a universal real-time alert channel.

- Origin: Prefer the NFL report or the relevant club’s announcement over an unattributed repost.
- Recency: A current update closer to kickoff is more useful than an earlier-week article.
- Type of status: Check whether the information is about practice participation or the player’s game designation.
- Finality: Treat a weekly designation as an earlier indication; the game-day inactive list is the later check.
The NFL Football Operations 2017 injury report policy provides historical context for the distinction between practice and game reports and for late updates. Because it is from 2017, it should not be treated as confirmation that every procedural detail remains the current rule.
