To install Gears of War: E-Day on PC, compare your Windows version, processor, RAM and graphics card with the game’s current Steam requirements, then make sure the target drive is an SSD with at least 115 GB free. Windows has built-in tools to check those details and review files you may be able to remove.
Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements
The Steam listing gives separate minimum and recommended configurations. These are the current requirements as of October 7, 2026; the listing warns that they can change and may vary by country.

The listing specifically requires hardware ray tracing for the minimum GPU tier, so a card should not be treated as compatible just because it is relatively recent. Check the exact GPU model and its ray-tracing capability if that is unclear. The Coalition described these as final launch PC specifications in its Xbox Wire announcement; the live Steam listing is the place to verify current requirements. (The Steam URL above is not specific to this game.)
How to check your Windows, processor and RAM

Open Settings > System > About.

Under device specifications, note your processor and installed RAM. Under Windows specifications, check your edition, version and system type to confirm whether Windows is 64-bit.

Compare those details with the minimum or recommended tier in the requirements table. A component meeting the minimum is not the same as meeting the recommended tier.

How to check your graphics card
Find the GPU model in Windows system information or use the PC manufacturer’s or GPU vendor’s tools. Compare the complete model name with the listed minimum and recommended GPUs, and verify that it supports hardware ray tracing. The game’s minimum requirement calls for that capability; don’t infer it from a broad label such as “gaming GPU.”

How to check available space on the right drive

Open File Explorer > This PC and find the drive where you plan to install the game. Read the available-space figure shown under that drive.

Alternatively, open Settings > System > Storage and inspect the relevant drive. Advanced storage settings can help you view other drives.

Confirm the target is an SSD and has at least 115 GB available. Check the drive you will actually use: freeing space on C: will not help if the game is going on a different drive.

How to free space without deleting files you need

Go to Settings > System > Storage and review the usage categories, including installed apps, temporary files and system-reserved storage.

Open Cleanup recommendations to review suggested temporary files, large or unused files, and rarely used apps. Select only items you are comfortable removing.

Use Storage Sense to review options for removing eligible temporary files or Recycle Bin contents. Check its settings before enabling automatic cleanup.
Microsoft describes Storage Sense as a way to remove selected unneeded files, including temporary files and items in the Recycle Bin. Not enough free space: Remove only files or apps you no longer need from the target drive, or choose another compatible SSD with sufficient capacity.

The target drive is not an SSD: The listing requires an SSD. Before buying one, check your PC or motherboard documentation for supported drive types and available slots; the game listing does not specify a format that fits every system.

A component falls below minimum: Compare the precise OS, CPU, RAM and GPU details with the minimum tier. In particular, verify hardware ray-tracing support rather than assuming the GPU requirement is met.
The Steam listing says future updates may require additional storage but does not give an extra-space figure. Treat 115 GB as the current listed requirement, not a guarantee of the game’s permanent total storage needs.
