If you pre-ordered it, the PS5 Game Library countdown is another official check. Read any displayed time zone carefully: a release date alone does not tell you the local unlock hour, and there is no universal midnight-local rule established for every PS5 game.
How do I check what time a PS5 game comes out in my region?
- Open the game’s PlayStation Store listing. PlayStation Support says the release date for a pre-order appears under the game title. Look for an exact hour and a time-zone label as well as the date; the date by itself is not an unlock time. PlayStation Support’s pre-order and auto-download guide explains where to find the date.
- If you pre-ordered the game, check its countdown on PS5. Go to Game Library, select the pre-ordered game, and view the timer. Selecting it shows included content and provides auto-download settings, according to PlayStation Support.
- Look for a game-specific official announcement if the listing is unclear. Check the publisher’s announcement or an official PlayStation post, and make sure it refers to the game’s launch rather than when pre-orders open.
- Convert the time only after identifying its zone. If the listing gives a UTC timestamp, convert that precise date and time to your location, taking local daylight-saving rules into account. Do not treat UTC as your local clock time.
What time does my PS5 pre-order unlock?
Use the listing or the Game Library countdown for that specific title. PlayStation’s support instructions confirm how to find a pre-order date and countdown, but do not promise that every game page displays an exact hour and zone. If you see only a date, do not infer an unlock time from it; check the live countdown if available and look for a game-specific official announcement.

For example, when checked on October 4, 2026, the US PlayStation Store listing for Grand Theft Auto VI showed a release timestamp of November 19, 2026 at 05:00 AM UTC. That is the listing for one game in the US Store, not a general PS5 launch rule. View the US PlayStation Store listing.

Do not assume so. The official examples do not establish that every PS5 game unlocks at midnight in each player’s region, or that all regions share one simultaneous global unlock. Follow the exact time and zone shown for the title, if provided.

It also matters which event an announcement describes. A September 28, 2026 PlayStation.Blog announcement about God of War: Laufey said pre-orders would open September 29 at 10:00am local time, while separately giving February 16, 2027 as the scheduled PS5 launch date. The pre-order opening time is not the game’s release time.

PlayStation Support recommends enabling Stay Connected to the Internet and describes the auto-download controls available through the pre-order countdown. These settings can prepare the download, but PlayStation’s guidance does not guarantee that every game will be immediately playable at its scheduled release instant.
