To check whether a Fortnite cosmetic works for you, verify two things: the platform account is linked to the Epic Games account that owns it, and Epic’s compatibility guide lists that cosmetic type for the Fortnite experience you want to play. Seeing an item in your Locker does not guarantee it can be used in every experience. Whether it is for sale today is a separate question.
Check ownership across your platform accounts
- Confirm which Epic Games account you use in Fortnite. Check that your platform account is linked to the same Epic account where the cosmetic was purchased, earned, or claimed. Epic says items are shared between platforms linked to the same Epic Games account: What content is shared between my platforms in Fortnite?
- Look for the item in the Locker. If it is missing, first check whether you are using the expected Epic account. Items do not move between Epic accounts, and Epic does not support trading them. Linking a platform to a different account will not transfer ownership. See Epic’s item-trading guidance.
- Separate device support from cosmetic compatibility. Epic’s supported-platforms page lists device families that can run Fortnite. That does not mean every cosmetic can be equipped in every Fortnite experience.
Check the cosmetic against the experience
Identify the item type—such as Outfit, Back Bling, Pickaxe, Vehicle, or Jam Track—and the experience or island you plan to enter. Then compare both against Epic’s live Fortnite Cosmetic Compatibility table. Epic’s guidance is that “most are not compatible with every experience,” so compatibility is not determined by platform alone.
The table covers Fortnite Battle Royale, Save the World, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and Developer-Made islands. Its entries differ by cosmetic type and experience, and Epic can update the table as Fortnite changes. Use the current matrix rather than assuming an item works everywhere because it works in one mode.
Read any compatibility icon correctly
A small portion of Outfits and accessories have restrictions tied to an island’s content-rating threshold. Epic says an icon appears in the Locker and Item Shop for affected items. This warning concerns the island’s rating, not necessarily incompatibility with your console, phone, or PC. Check the icon and the rating of the island you are entering.

Distinguish item ownership from V-Bucks
A wallet balance that differs between devices does not by itself show that a cosmetic failed to transfer. Epic says items are shared across platforms linked to the same Epic account, but currency has exceptions. V-Bucks purchased on Nintendo Switch are not shared with other platforms. Epic also describes a Korea-specific restriction for PC-purchased V-Bucks; consult its current V-Bucks transfer guidance for the applicable rules. Currency limitations should not be confused with whether an already-owned cosmetic can be used.

The compatibility guide explains where item types can be used; it does not establish whether a particular cosmetic is currently available to purchase. Look up the exact cosmetic in Fortnite’s live Item Shop or check the official promotion associated with it. Without a specific item, there is no way to confirm its current sale status.

Quick diagnosis
- Item absent from Locker: verify the Epic account and where the item was obtained; ownership stays with that account.
- Item appears but cannot be used in a mode: check the compatibility table for its type and that experience.
- An icon appears: check whether an island-rating restriction applies.
- Only the V-Bucks balance differs: check where the currency was purchased and the platform-specific rules.
- You want to know if it is on sale: check the current Item Shop; general compatibility does not indicate current stock.
