To check whether a GTA 6 trailer or TV spot is official, match it against Rockstar Games’ own announcement and video listings. Start with the official GTA VI website and Rockstar’s Newswire. If you cannot find a matching release there, call the clip unverified—not automatically fake or official.
Where to check for an official GTA 6 trailer
- Open Rockstar’s GTA VI website: Navigate to rockstargames.com/VI and open its video or media section. Rockstar’s media page lists Trailer 1, Trailer 2, and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.
- Look for a matching Newswire announcement: Search Rockstar Newswire for the trailer or spot title. Check the announcement date and whether Rockstar names a release time or official viewing destinations.
- Compare the actual item: Match the footage and title to Rockstar’s listing or announcement. A repost may be convenient, but the repost alone does not confirm that Rockstar published it.
How to check whether a GTA 6 TV spot is official
Use the same publisher-source check for a clip described as a TV spot: look for Rockstar’s announcement or a matching item in its official catalog. The official material reviewed here does not establish that every official TV spot must appear in the media library, so an absent listing is not by itself proof that a broadcast clip is fake. If Rockstar’s published material does not confirm the clip, describe its provenance as unverified.
A recent example of Rockstar naming release channels
On August 6, 2026, Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look would premiere on Netflix on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, then launch on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and the GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET. Rockstar’s August 27 follow-up said the Extended Look was available on YouTube and the official site. Those named destinations and matching Newswire posts provide a concrete release trail; the current site and announcement are better evidence than an old article or a remembered schedule.
What visual clues can—and cannot—tell you
A familiar Rockstar logo, convincing title card, polished editing, or account name does not establish publisher provenance on its own. Those details may look persuasive, but the official source trail is what lets you verify that Rockstar announced or listed a release. The official pages cited here document Rockstar’s own releases and stated channels; they do not provide a general forensic method for authenticating a copied, altered, or captured video.

What to say when a clip cannot be matched
- Confirmed by Rockstar: The clip matches an official listing or Rockstar announcement that identifies it.
- Unverified from Rockstar’s published material: You cannot find a matching listing or announcement. This states what you checked without claiming the clip is fake.
- Not enough evidence: A search-result snippet, repost caption, creator claim, or visual resemblance is not a substitute for the underlying official page.
Release records can change as Rockstar publishes new material. Check the current GTA VI site and Newswire rather than relying on a past catalog snapshot.
