If you already own one of those consoles, Rockstar’s published information gives no GTA VI-specific reason to replace it with another supported model. If you’re buying, choose between the two console families based on your games, friends, and other needs—not on unverified claims that one runs GTA VI better.
Which consoles are confirmed for GTA 6?
Rockstar’s platform, editions, and versions FAQ lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The reviewed official listing does not name PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or PC as supported platforms. That describes Rockstar’s published information as of October 7, 2026; it is not a prediction about future announcements.
Rockstar gives the release date as November 19, 2026. Its store listing also shows that date.
Is one PS5 or Xbox model better for GTA 6?
Rockstar has not published a GTA VI-specific performance comparison between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, or between models within either family. Its reviewed pages also do not state the game’s resolution, frame rate, or storage requirement. Without those details, there is no official basis for paying extra for a particular model on the assumption that it will deliver a GTA VI performance advantage.

For a model comparison, use the manufacturers’ information: Sony’s PS5 overview describes its console family, and Microsoft’s Series X and Series S comparison covers their features, storage, and expansion. Those pages can help you compare consoles generally, but they are not GTA VI performance tests.
How to choose the right console for you
- Choose a console family. Consider where your existing games and friends are, which services you use, and which controller you prefer. Rockstar confirms both families, but its published information does not establish an overall GTA VI winner.
- Compare exact models. Check the storage included, whether a disc drive is built in or available, warranty, and the current price in your country. Model configurations, stock, and prices vary by market and date.
- Decide whether you need a disc drive for other reasons. Rockstar says the physical GTA VI package is a box containing a download code, not a game disc. A drive is therefore not needed to use that package. It may still matter if you want to play other disc-based games or use physical media.
- Check local availability and account-region terms. Rockstar’s pre-order details list country-specific storefront availability. Rockstar advises buying from a retailer in the country associated with your platform account to avoid activation problems with region-sensitive PlayStation codes.
What editions and pre-order timing has Rockstar announced?
Rockstar’s FAQ, updated August 18, 2026, names Standard and Ultimate editions and says Standard owners can purchase a digital upgrade to Ultimate. It describes the physical Standard package as a download code in a box and does not list a physical Ultimate Edition.

Rockstar says eligible digital pre-orders made before November 20, 2026 include one month of GTA+. The offer is subject to the platform and date conditions on Rockstar’s page, so check the current terms there before ordering.
Rockstar says pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026. It expects the code-in-box version to be available from November 12 to support pre-loading. The release date is November 19, 2026.
