This is a practical compatibility check—not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or smooth performance.
Where to find a Steam game’s requirements
On the game’s Steam Store page, scroll to System Requirements. Steam lists the game’s supported operating systems and hardware requirements there. Check the page for the exact game you plan to play; requirements differ from title to title. Steam Support: Game is not available on your current platform.
Compare your PC with the listing
Read each requirement on the Store page and compare it with the matching detail for your PC. Check the operating system before focusing on hardware: a game may not support your OS, or may require a 64-bit version of Windows.
- Operating system: Check the listed OS and any stated version or 64-bit requirement.
- Processor: Compare the CPU model or specification with the listed processor.
- Memory: Compare your available RAM with the listed amount.
- Graphics: Check the graphics card and any specified graphics capabilities—not just a DirectX version.
- Storage: Make sure you have enough available space for the listed requirement.
Steam notes that a graphics card can lack a required pixel-shader capability even if it meets the stated minimum DirectX requirement. DirectX version alone therefore may not establish graphics compatibility. Steam Support: DirectX and Pixel Shader Requirements for Games on Steam.

What Minimum and Recommended mean for your decision
If the page provides both columns, compare your PC against each one rather than treating them as interchangeable. Meeting the Minimum listing is a sign that the PC may meet the game’s baseline specification; it does not promise high frame rates or strong performance. A PC that meets Minimum but falls short of Recommended may require lower graphics settings or deliver less performance than you want. How certain is a requirements match?
Use the comparison as an estimate, not a guarantee for every PC configuration. Available memory and graphics settings affect results, and raising resolution or video options can reduce FPS. A computer near or below the listed requirements may also encounter launch or performance problems. If the game struggles to start, Steam recommends checking the requirements and keeping the operating system and drivers current. Steam Support: Games do not run after ‘Preparing to Launch’.

For a more specific assessment, compare the Store page with your PC’s CPU, GPU, RAM, operating system and version, and available storage. Without a particular game and computer configuration, no reliable yes-or-no verdict—or universal upgrade recommendation—is possible. The component that might need attention depends on the game and the PC; Steam identifies graphics cards and memory as possible performance factors, not as automatic upgrades for every player. No. Steam Deck’s Verified, Playable, Unsupported and Unknown labels describe compatibility with Steam Deck, not whether a Windows desktop or laptop meets a game’s PC requirements. Steam describes Verified games as working great by default on Deck, Playable games as working with possible manual configuration, Unsupported games as not currently considered playable, and Unknown games as not yet tested.
