Check the latest NBA Daily Team Injury Report for the exact game, team and player, then read the report’s timestamp and status. Check again close to tipoff and look for the team’s official game-day update: a report is a snapshot, not a guarantee that the player will take the court.
How to check a player’s status
- Confirm the game and date. Make sure you have the right matchup and the player’s current team; the daily report covers multiple games.
- Open the NBA Daily Team Injury Report. The NBA describes the daily report as a central source for injury, illness and rest information across its games.
- Find the player’s entry. Check the matchup and team, then note the report time, status and stated reason. NBA report examples include these fields.
- Check for a newer update near tipoff. Consult the team’s official game-day updates as well as the league report. Prefer the newest applicable official update for the same game and date.
What the status labels mean
The report’s labels—including Available, Out, Doubtful, Questionable and Probable—describe the team’s reported position at the time of that update. They are not a record of what ultimately happened: for example, “Questionable” is not a confirmation that a player will or will not play. Read the timestamp with the status, and do not translate a label into a numerical probability unless an official source provides one.
A player missing from the report is not, by omission alone, confirmed active or inactive. Check the team’s official update and look again closer to game time.
Active does not mean starting
The starting lineup answers who begins the game, not which players are available to play. NBA Rule No. 3, Section II says: “At least 30 minutes before the game is scheduled to begin, the scorers shall be supplied with the name and number of each player who will start the game.” A player absent from that list may still be available as a reserve. Which source should you trust if updates differ?
- Authority: Prefer an official NBA or team publication over a secondary tracker.
- Freshness: Compare timestamps and use the newest relevant update.
- Meaning: Check whether the item reports availability or only names the starting five.
- Match: Verify that it refers to the same player, team, game and date.
How often does the NBA report update?
The NBA’s 2018 announcement listed report times of 1:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET. Those times describe the schedule announced in 2018, not a confirmed current cadence. For the current season, use the report’s own timestamp and check again near tipoff rather than relying on that historical schedule.
The NBA’s 2026–27 key dates page, updated August 19, 2026, says preseason games began October 3, 2026. It does not establish a current injury-report update timetable.
