Check your ballot’s status in Michigan’s official voter information service at Michigan.gov/Vote. Its Absentee ballot section shows when the ballot was sent and whether the clerk received the completed ballot. A “received” update confirms clerk receipt in the tracker; it does not by itself confirm final acceptance or that the ballot was counted.
Check your ballot status online
- Go to Michigan.gov/Vote and open the state voter information service, also available at mi.gov/myvoterinfo.
- Search using your name, birth month and year, and ZIP code. You can also choose the driver’s-license-number search option.
- Find the Absentee ballot section. It shows when your ballot was sent and whether the clerk received your completed ballot.
You can sign up for email alerts through the state’s ballot notification service to learn when the clerk sends and receives your ballot. The service asks for the same identifying details, an email address, and your consent.
What “received” means—and what it does not
“Received” means the online system reports that the clerk received your ballot. Michigan’s tracker does not label that status a final acceptance determination or confirmation of tabulation. Local clerks review the signature on each absentee ballot return envelope against the signature on record. Completed, signed ballots received by clerks are securely stored until processing and tabulation.
If the tracker has no update
First consider how you returned the ballot. If you handed it in at an early voting site or an Election Day location, the online tracker will not show it as received and will not send a notification. That missing update alone does not mean the ballot was lost.

If you mailed your ballot and the tracker has no update, or if its mailing or receipt information is unclear, contact your local clerk. Use the clerk locator linked from the state voter information service. Michigan’s guidance does not specify a uniform time for local records to appear in the tracker, so do not assume a particular update interval.
Know the receipt deadline
- Most voters: The local clerk must receive the absentee ballot by 8 p.m. on Election Day for it to be counted.
- Military and overseas voters: A valid ballot with a matching signature may arrive within six days after Election Day if it was postmarked on or before Election Day.
