Gears of War: E-Day requires a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU; the Steam listing says cards without dedicated hardware ray-tracing support are unsupported. Then compare your GPU and the rest of your PC with the current official requirements table.
How to check your PC
- Find your processor and memory. In Windows, open Settings → System → About. Note the processor model and installed memory.
- Identify every graphics adapter. Open Task Manager → Performance → GPU or Device Manager → Display adapters. Record the exact model, including whether it is a laptop GPU. If your PC has both integrated and discrete graphics, note both and check which one your games use.
- Verify hardware ray tracing for that exact model. Check the GPU manufacturer’s documentation. The Steam listing states: “A hardware ray tracing capable graphics card is required. Graphics cards without dedicated hardware ray tracing support are not support.” Software upscaling is not a substitute for that hardware capability. Steam listing
- Compare the model with the current requirements table. The Coalition’s announcement says the final PC specifications were revealed and notes that its specifications image was updated September 28, 2026. - Check the other components separately. Confirm your CPU, RAM, and available SSD space against the complete table. A GPU that passes the ray-tracing check does not establish that the entire PC meets the requirements.
Which graphics cards are listed?
PC Gamer’s transcription of the published requirement tiers names the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 and AMD Radeon RX 6600 as minimum-tier examples. It reports the tiers as targeting 1080p at 60 FPS for minimum, 1440p at 60+ FPS for recommended, and 4K at 60+ FPS for Ultra, using DLSS, FSR, TSR, or XeSS. Do not infer that a laptop version, older model, or similarly named GPU qualifies because its name resembles a listed card. Check the exact model against the current table and confirm its dedicated ray-tracing capability. The cited requirement list also does not establish that the RTX 2060 and RX 6600 deliver identical frame rates.
What the ray-tracing rule does—and does not—mean
The requirement is an eligibility threshold, not merely a graphics setting you can switch off to make unsupported older hardware qualify. The Coalition’s technical article says the game uses DirectX 12 and supports hardware ray tracing, alongside NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, NVIDIA Reflex, AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, Intel XeSS, and Advanced Shader Delivery on compatible systems. Do you need 12 GB of VRAM?
Not as a general minimum based on the cited information. NVIDIA says its RTX Mega Geometry feature requires a GeForce RTX GPU with at least 12 GB of VRAM. That is a feature-specific condition; do not mistake it for the basic requirement to play. NVIDIA’s launch article

If the exact GPU lacks dedicated hardware ray tracing or falls short of the current tier table, a local graphics setting or upscaler will not satisfy the stated hardware requirement. NVIDIA describes GeForce NOW cloud streaming as an alternative for players without a compatible local GeForce RTX PC or laptop. Check current availability in your region, subscription terms, supported storefronts, and library conditions before relying on it. NVIDIA’s launch article

If considering an upgrade, first check whether your power supply, case clearance, and other system components can support the candidate card. Compare eligible GPUs by exact model, intended resolution and performance tier, and VRAM; the requirements examples are not a controlled head-to-head performance comparison.
