Check AdSense for YouTube to see whether Google withheld U.S. tax from eligible earnings tied to U.S. viewers, then check Form 26AS and the Annual Information Statement (AIS) on India’s Income Tax e-Filing portal for any reported Indian tax credit. These are separate records: a lower payout by itself does not prove Indian TDS was deducted.
First, identify what changed in your payout
Compare your finalized earnings with the payment transactions in AdSense for YouTube. Estimated earnings can change because of invalid traffic, copyright claims or disputes, certain ad campaign types, and taxes on eligible earnings from U.S. viewers. Policy-related payment holds or deductions can also affect payment. Do not label the difference as tax until you have checked the transaction details. YouTube’s earnings guidance explains these possible adjustments.
Google says finalized earnings and any applicable withholding are visible in AdSense for YouTube, not YouTube Analytics. Open Settings → Payments to review earnings and recent transactions. On the Transactions page, select All time if you need a longer history. Google’s earnings help describes finalized earnings and payment timing.
Check Google’s U.S. tax withholding record
- Sign in to AdSense for YouTube.
- Open Payments → Payments info → Manage settings.
- Under United States tax info, choose Manage tax info.
- Check the form status and the withholding rates shown in the tax information area. An “Approved” status means the submitted form was approved; it does not by itself mean no tax was withheld. Compare the displayed rate with the withholding line in your payment records.
Google’s withholding guidance concerns eligible YouTube earnings from U.S. viewers for creators outside the United States. For non-U.S. creators who provide U.S. tax information, Google states a range of 0–30% on applicable U.S.-viewer earnings; the rate depends on the creator’s circumstances, submitted information, and treaty eligibility. In some account situations, failure to provide tax information can result in withholding of up to 24% of total earnings worldwide. These are conditional U.S. withholding rules, not a general Indian TDS rate. See Google’s U.S. tax requirements for YouTube earnings.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteGoogle advises monetizing creators to review their tax information annually. A submitted form expires at the end of the third full calendar year after the year it was signed. A change in circumstances that affects the form’s validity may also require resubmission. Google’s tax guidance explains these requirements.
Check for an Indian TDS credit separately
- Sign in to the Income Tax e-Filing portal and select the relevant financial year and PAN.
- Review Form 26AS for reported TDS/TCS information.
- Review your AIS for TDS/TCS and other information, including specified financial transactions and tax payments.
The Income Tax Department says Form 26AS contains TDS/TCS information, while AIS includes that information and additional categories. Since AY 2023–24, the Department says Form 26AS on TRACES displays TDS/TCS data, with other taxpayer information appearing in AIS. Use these records to check whether Indian TDS is reported; a missing entry alone does not establish your total tax liability or determine how foreign tax withheld should be treated. See the Department’s AIS guidance.
If you need a certificate for non-salary TDS, Form 16A is a quarterly certificate that records the credited amount, TDS amount, nature of payment, and deposited TDS. If your return’s credit does not match Form 26AS, the Department’s mismatch guidance says to inform the deductor responsible for the deduction; a correction to the deductor’s TDS return or forms may be needed. Consult the Department’s Form 26AS guidance and mismatch guidance.

Reconcile the records without conflating taxes
- Confirm the AdSense account, PAN, financial year, and payment date you are checking.
- Record the finalized earnings, transaction entries, U.S. tax form status, and any withholding line or rate shown in AdSense for YouTube.
- Search Form 26AS and AIS for the same period and note any reported Indian TDS/TCS or tax-payment information.
- For each figure, identify the payer and jurisdiction. A Google U.S. withholding entry and an Indian TDS credit are not interchangeable records.
- If an Indian credit is missing or incorrect, follow the Income Tax Department’s mismatch process and contact the deductor shown in the relevant record. If the Google payment entry or U.S. withholding remains unclear, contact Google support or a qualified tax adviser.
Keep payment timing separate from withholding
YouTube says finalized earnings are generally added to the AdSense for YouTube account balance between the 7th and 12th of the month. Payments are generally issued between the 21st and 26th if payment requirements are met. These are usual payment windows, not tax dates or evidence that a deduction occurred. See YouTube’s earnings and payment guidance.

What this means for Indian creators
Google says it cannot provide tax advice, and creators may have tax obligations in their country of residence on monetized YouTube income. A U.S. withholding entry does not resolve how to report the income or claim any applicable credit in India. For your filing position, confirm the treatment with the Income Tax Department or a qualified Indian tax professional. Google’s tax guidance covers its withholding process and the limits of its advice.
