Turn the console over and read the small model code printed on its back. On a Nintendo Switch OLED Model, open the rear stand to find the code beneath it. The original Switch is HAC-001 (or the revised HAC-001(-01)); the OLED Model is HEG-001; and the Switch Lite is HDH-001. Nintendo Switch 2 is BEE-001.
Where is the model number on a Nintendo Switch?
- Standard Nintendo Switch: Turn the console over and inspect the printed text on the rear. Nintendo Support says the model number can be checked on the rear of the console (Nintendo Support).
- Nintendo Switch Lite: Turn it over and look for the model number on the rear.
- Nintendo Switch OLED Model: Open the adjustable rear stand and look underneath it for the printed model number.
You do not need to remove a panel or use an accessory. Read the complete code, including any suffix.

Match the code to your console
| Console | Model number | Identifying details |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | HAC-001 | Original standard model. |
| Nintendo Switch, revised version | HAC-001(-01) | Keep the (-01) suffix when identifying this revision. |
| Nintendo Switch OLED Model | HEG-001 | 7-inch OLED screen; 64 GB internal storage. |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | HDH-001 | 5.5-inch LCD screen; handheld-only form factor; 32 GB internal storage. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | BEE-001 | A separate successor system, not one of the original Switch models. |
Nintendo’s comparison lists the standard HAC-001(-01) with a 6.2-inch LCD screen and 32 GB internal storage. These screen and storage details can help distinguish the original Switch family models, but the printed model code is the direct identifier (Nintendo Canada’s system comparison; Nintendo’s system comparison).
How to tell HAC-001 from HAC-001(-01)
Check the entire printed designation. HAC-001 identifies the original standard Nintendo Switch, while HAC-001(-01) identifies the revised version. Do not omit the (-01) suffix if you are checking which revision you own.

#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*

Nintendo lists approximate battery-life estimates of 2.5–6.5 hours for HAC-001 and 4.5–9 hours for HAC-001(-01). These are manufacturer estimates, and actual battery duration varies with the game or software being used and other use conditions. Battery behavior is not a dependable substitute for reading the model code (Nintendo Support: battery life).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Model number vs. serial number
A model number identifies the console model or revision; a serial number identifies an individual unit. They are different codes, so do not use a serial-number prefix as the model number.
Rank #2
- 6.2” LCD screen
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
If you need the serial number and its sticker is missing, Nintendo of America says to open System Settings > System > Serial Information to view it. Its serial-number prefix guidance applies to systems released in the Americas, not necessarily systems from other regions (Nintendo of America Support).
