Choose a 4K 60fps YouTube Live encoder by verifying the complete path from camera input to encoded YouTube stream—not by relying on a “4K” label. Confirm it encodes UHD 3840×2160 at 60 fps, accepts your camera’s actual signal, supports a YouTube-compatible codec and ingest protocol, and has published power requirements that fit your battery and DC setup. Then size the solar system for the entire production rig and the site where it will run.
What to verify before choosing an encoder
A device may accept a 4K input without encoding that signal at 4K60. Check the manufacturer’s documentation for the exact output mode, frame rate, supported input formats and connector type. Treat each as a separate requirement.
- Encoding: Verify UHD 3840×2160 at 60 fps encoding, rather than 4K pass-through, input support or a lower-frame-rate mode.
- Camera connection: Match HDMI or SDI connectors and the camera’s actual resolution, frame rate and signal format to the encoder’s supported inputs.
- YouTube delivery: Confirm the encoder supports a codec, protocol, bitrate control and keyframe interval that fit your YouTube workflow.
- Power: Look for both nominal and maximum consumption, plus the available AC or DC powering options and the exact cable or connector required.
- Site fit: Assess mounting, heat, setup and networking for the location where the encoder will operate. These are installation questions, not proof of encoding quality.
Teradek documents UHD 4K at 50, 59.94 and 60 fps for the Prism Flex Mk II, and its product page describes support for resolutions up to DCI 4K60. Those specifications make it a documented candidate, not an independently tested best choice. Teradek Prism Flex Mk II user guide · Teradek Prism Flex Mk II product page
Match the encoder to YouTube’s 4K60 settings
YouTube Help’s current guidance, accessed in 2026, lists 4K/2160p at 60 fps. For that mode it recommends 35 Mbps with H.264; its listed AV1 and HEVC bitrate setting range is 10–40 Mbps. These are platform settings, not a guarantee that a particular encoder or internet connection will sustain a clean stream.

| YouTube 4K60 consideration | Guidance | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 4K/2160p at 60 fps | Ensure the encoder can encode the exact mode your camera supplies. |
| H.264 bitrate | 35 Mbps recommended | Set the encoder and verify that the uplink can sustain the stream. |
| AV1 or HEVC bitrate | 10–40 Mbps setting range | Verify support at both ends of your chosen encoder and ingest workflow. |
| Rate control | CBR recommended | Use constant bitrate if available and configure it for your selected codec and mode. |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended | Set a two-second interval where the encoder exposes this control. |
| Latency | 4K live streams do not offer YouTube’s low-latency option; guidance says they are optimized for quality at normal latency. | Plan for normal latency rather than choosing 4K60 on the assumption of low-latency delivery. |
YouTube lists H.264, HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends secure RTMPS. Its separate HLS ingest guidance supports H.264 or HEVC with AAC; HLS is generally higher latency because it is segment-based. Confirm the encoder’s specific implementation and that your account and workflow can use the intended ingest route. For a solar-powered site, the stream’s bitrate also creates a network requirement: test the real uplink at the intended location and monitor YouTube’s stream health. A codec’s permitted setting range does not establish that a cellular, satellite or other connection will reliably deliver it.

Compare power requirements without confusing device and system load
The published encoder draw is only one part of the electrical budget. For example, Teradek lists the Prism Flex Mk II at 20 W nominal and 36 W maximum. Those figures apply to that encoder, not a camera, router, modem, monitor or complete rig. Teradek Prism Flex Mk II user guide
Teradek’s Serv 4K (2024) quick-start guide says it can encode up to 4Kp60 and can be powered by its AC adapter or a D-Tap cable to a battery. The cited guide passage does not establish the unit’s power consumption; do not treat the included 30 W adapter as a measured device draw. Teradek Serv 4K (2024) quick-start guide

These examples are not a like-for-like test: the documented power and input details differ, and the available specifications do not establish which device is better for a particular camera, site or duty cycle. Compare candidates using their own manuals and confirm connector and cable requirements before purchasing or wiring a battery system.
Size the solar system for the whole production
An encoder watt figure cannot tell you the required panel wattage or battery capacity by itself. First establish how long the stream must run, where and in which season it will operate, and how many backup days or other reserve you need. Then inventory every load, including the camera, encoder, networking equipment, monitors, power conversion and any other devices. Account for conversion losses and local solar-generation conditions when sizing storage and generation.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- List each device and its power source. Record manufacturer power figures where available, and distinguish nominal from maximum draw.
- Set the operating schedule. Record the intended broadcast hours and which devices must be on for the full period.
- Confirm the power path. Check DC input limits, battery outputs, D-Tap or other connector compatibility, cable requirements and any conversion equipment.
- Apply site assumptions. Use the actual location, season and required autonomy or reserve target to size the battery and solar generation.
- Validate the complete rig. Test the assembled system under representative streaming conditions rather than extrapolating from the encoder alone.
The available device specifications do not provide a universal solar-system size. Without your other loads, broadcast duration, location, season and reserve target, a panel or battery recommendation would be guesswork.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live using uploaded recordings rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a different approach: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer or home internet connection has to stay on. It does not stream a live camera feed.
StreamNeo is always on from the cloud, supports uploaded video as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Its service is for YouTube only; for Indian users, UPI is supported.
