Choose an AION 2 class by the job and combat style you want, not by an assumed universal “best class.” NCSOFT’s announced roles point to Templar for tanking, Gladiator for wide melee attacks, Assassin for precision melee, Marksman for ranged scouting, Sorcerer for burst magic, Spiritmaster for a solo-oriented identity, Cleric for healing with highlighted damage capability, and Chanter for group support. These are role descriptions—not current rankings—and class balance has changed since they were announced.
Which AION 2 class fits your playstyle?
NCSOFT introduced eight classes in its May 2025 presentation. Use the table as a starting map of their stated identities, not as a measured comparison of damage, difficulty, leveling speed, PvP strength, or group demand.

The role descriptions come from NCSOFT’s May 2025 AION 2 presentation. The alternate English names appear in community guides, including the AION 2 Wiki class guide and AION 2 Handbook class guide. Names may vary by region or material, so verify the current client label before relying on an English guide.
Choose by the job you want to do
If you want to tank
Start with Templar. It is the class NCSOFT explicitly identifies as the core tanking role. The announcement does not provide a comparative measure of its current survivability or performance.

If you want physical melee
Compare Gladiator’s wide-area attacks with Assassin’s precision-based melee identity. These descriptions distinguish their announced feel, but do not establish which deals more damage or is easier to play.
If you want to fight at range
Look at the long-range scout class. NCSOFT’s 2025 English announcement calls it Marksman, while newer community material uses Ranger. Confirm the label in your region’s client rather than assuming the names are interchangeable everywhere.

If you want magic
Sorcerer is described around high-burst magic damage; Spiritmaster is described around solo play. Those summaries are useful for identifying the intended playstyle, but they do not establish their relative strength or current solo efficiency.
If you want group utility
Consider the distinction between Cleric and Chanter. NCSOFT highlights improved damage capability for Cleric, while it describes Chanter as versatile support with multiplayer utility. The announced descriptions do not fully specify current healing rotations or group demand.

Why “best class” depends on patch and mode
NCSOFT’s May 2025 class descriptions identify roles, not a ranking. On March 25, 2026, the publisher announced a comprehensive class rebalance, new Stigma skills, and separate PvP and PvE damage calculations. Its update names skills for Gladiator, Templar, Chanter, Cleric, Elementalist, Sorcerer, Assassin, and Ranger. That confirms class design and tuning have changed; the announcement itself does not provide enough comparative performance data to identify a current winner.
For any claim that one class is strongest, easiest, or most wanted, check that the evidence specifies the patch date, region, and content mode. A PvP ranking does not automatically answer a PvE question, and an undated tier list may predate the rebalance. The publisher’s March 2026 announcement is available at NCSOFT’s class overhaul update.

Make the choice when you are torn between two classes
- Pick the role you most want. Decide whether you would rather tank, use broad or precise melee attacks, fight at range, focus on burst magic, pursue a solo-oriented identity, heal, or support a group.
- Compare the stated combat feel. For example, choose between Gladiator’s wide-area attacks and Assassin’s precision melee, rather than relying on an unsupported claim about which is stronger.
- Check the mode you expect to play. If your decision depends on strength, look for dated evidence specific to PvE or PvP instead of treating one mode’s ranking as universal.
- Verify regional names and availability. The cited official materials establish an eight-class presentation in 2025, not the exact live roster or availability in every region as of October 7, 2026. Check your local client for current class names and access.
What the announced roster does—and does not—tell you
The class descriptions support a practical role map, but they do not establish a durable best class, class popularity, relative difficulty, or a numerical comparison of damage and leveling speed. Nor do they settle current group demand. Treat each of those as a separate, time-sensitive question requiring evidence for the relevant patch, region, and mode.
