Improve gear and matrices on separate tracks: enhance armor slots for reliable stat gains, fuse only armor with useful random stats, and equip matrices that support the weapons and set effects you actually use. For new pieces, check the current activity reward preview in your client; broad source lists do not guarantee that a particular activity still pays out a specific item.
How armor upgrades work
Armor provides passive combat stats and can generally be obtained through dungeons and shops. Its fixed stats and random bonus-stat lines serve different purposes, so assess them separately when deciding what to upgrade.
Enhancement improves the slot
Enhancement raises an armor piece’s fixed stats. It uses Gold and Enhancement Modules; breakthrough levels also require Superior Modules. Every +5 milestone grants additional stats when all relevant pieces reach that milestone, and your character level limits how far you can enhance equipment. Enhancement carries over when you replace armor, so treat it as investment in the slot rather than a reason to keep a weaker piece.
Take care when dismantling or removing the currently enhanced item: replace it rather than leaving the slot without gear.

Fusion improves an individual piece
Fusion, also called advancement in some older references, adds stars and improves one random bonus stat per star. The maximum star level depends on the armor’s rarity. Check the bonus-stat lines and their values before committing resources: a highly fused piece is only useful if its stats fit your build. Unlike enhancement, fused stars do not fully transfer to a replacement piece.
How to choose and upgrade matrices
Matrices are weapon attachments. Each weapon has four matrix slots; pieces provide passive stats, and a compatible set can add an effect. Set effects generally apply while you are using the weapon that holds the matrices. Matrix levels improve their stats, while stars strengthen set-effect values.

Prioritize useful effects over isolated upgrades
Build around the weapons you actually use. When comparing matrices, check that they fit the slot, that their set effect supports your build, and that the cost of leveling or advancing them is worth the gain. A small upgrade to one matrix may be less valuable than completing a useful set effect.
There is no established universal best matrix set or damage ranking in the sources available for this guide. The right choice depends on your weapons, element, play mode, and inventory; avoid spending heavily on a set just because it is presented as best for everyone.

Where to get armor and matrices
General system guides list dungeons and shops as armor sources. Matrix sources include banners, Joint Operations, world bosses, the home-island shop, and Void Rifts. These are broad routes, not a verified version 6.3 reward table: check the activity’s reward preview in your current client before using limited energy, keys, or other resources.
For free-to-play progression, focus your resources around a coherent weapon core rather than spreading upgrades across many options. Older community advice about level-specific Joint Operations rewards is not a current guarantee and should not determine where you farm without checking the live client.

A practical gear check before spending
- Armor: Compare fixed stats, random-stat lines and values, rarity, enhancement milestone, and fit for your build.
- Matrices: Compare slot compatibility, set effect, weapon assignment, passive stats, and the resources needed to level or advance the pieces.
- Acquisition: Verify current activity rewards and shop inventory in-game instead of assuming an older guide reflects today’s drop table.
