Choose a display case by measuring the finished LEGO model in the exact pose you want to show, then compare those measurements with the case’s internal dimensions. If the set opens, spreads out, or sits on a stand, measure that configuration—not just its compact or closed form. The LEGO Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block (71395) is a useful example: its closed display and its opened four-scene display need different amounts of room.
How do you measure a LEGO model for a display case?
- Set the display pose first. Decide whether the model will be closed, open, angled, or arranged with any removable parts displayed beside it.
- Measure the completed build. Record its widest points in width, depth, and height in that exact orientation. Include a stand, plaque, figures, or added scenery if they will stay in the case.
- Check the case’s internal dimensions. Compare the model’s measurements with the usable interior, not the case’s outer footprint. Leave clearance to lower the build into the case and remove it without forcing it against the walls.
- Check the outside dimensions separately. Make sure the assembled case fits the shelf or cabinet where it will sit.
- Confirm practical details on the current listing. Check whether the case is flat-packed, how it assembles, available base colors, whether it stacks, and whether it can be moved with the model inside.
This method follows the manufacturer guidance in Moduspace’s July 2026 display-case guide, which advises measuring the finished build in the position you want to see it. It is a selection method, not an independent test of any case’s fit or durability.
Should you display the Question Mark Block closed or open?
Nintendo describes the LEGO Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block (71395) as over 18 cm high, wide, and deep, and says it opens to reveal four detailed Super Mario 64 scenes. The set has 2,064 pieces and includes ten microfigures. Those published dimensions are a baseline; measure your own completed build, especially if you have added scenery or plan to show the interior. Nintendo’s product listing does not state its publication year.
A closed case is suited to the compact exterior pose, while an open-position case needs room for the unfolded build. A case that accommodates the closed block should not be assumed to fit it open.

What else should you compare besides size?
- Pose and access: Confirm the case is intended for the closed or open arrangement you plan to display, and that there is enough room to place and remove the build.
- Material and assembly: Check the stated material, thickness, and assembly method. A flat-packed case may need assembly before display.
- Base and stacking: Verify base color options and any stated stacking capability if those matter to your setup.
- Moving the display: Check whether the listing supports moving the assembled case with the LEGO model inside. The iDisplayit XL listing specifically says it is not designed for relocation in that condition.
- Shelf clearance: Use external dimensions for the shelf or cabinet check, but do not substitute them for internal dimensions when assessing model fit.
Is LEGO’s Play and Display Case a fit for a console-themed set?
LEGO’s blue Play and Display Case (5006157) is a general two-level display product with six gray baseplates and a transparent cover. LEGO lists its overall dimensions as over 19 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. Those outside measurements do not establish how much usable interior space it has or whether it fits the Question Mark Block in either pose. Treat it as a general alternative only after checking its current internal measurements against the finished model’s intended display configuration. See LEGO’s product listing.

What to check before ordering
- Measure the completed set in its final display pose, including any pieces or accessories that will remain with it.
- Match those measurements to the case’s stated interior and allow room for handling.
- Check the external dimensions against the display location.
- Confirm assembly, base, stacking, and relocation details on the current product page.
- For set 71395, choose a closed or open-position case based on the pose you actually plan to display.
